ChiDiana, Thats the way I remember it. my brothers knew them and their family. I didn't, I just remember when that happened, and hearing my parents talking about it as it was in the paper or on the news. It's just so sad. Hyden

Yes, it was and is sad. My mom worked as a waitress at the Sugar n Spice restaurant in Fairfax at the time (I think it was '64) I l had also gone to school in Fairfax the year before we first moved to the Manor. She used to come home and talk about how sad and upset the whole area was about it. I asked about Boyd McQuery because my sister knew him years later.

Here's a few more names of some of the kids I remember and used to hang out with. Bear in mind this was back in the mid to late-50's. Any of these names ring a bell?

Brenda and Teddy Preece (Sister and brother) - They lived on Shelborne right around the corner from our apt building. They had an older sister named Connie (the one I was thinking of) and a much older sister (she didn't live there though) named Stella. They originally came from Kentucky.

Karen Karesh - She lived upstairs on Kingsley across the street from us and on the corner of Shelborne.

Charlie Mascari - He lived at the Orphanage. He was one of my best friends.

Rodney Harrington - He also lived at the Orphanage. He was also one of my best friends.

Larry and Terry Wise (Brother and sister) - They lived upstairs from us on Kingsley.

Bill Sims - He's afro-american, was athletic, and a great friend. He lived in Madisonville and went to Lyons Jr. High.

I had a P.E. teacher at Eastwood Elementary School in the 50's, but I can't remember his name right now. He and his wife sometimes came to our apt for dinner. I think my brother has some of the school records.

Yes. GManorborn provided this amazing link. It shows an aerial photo of all the streets and all the apartments back in 1968 (I think). Click Pan Image then you can drag the photos to one side or the other to see more. Or you can click Zoom In for a closer look. Click the Zoom Out button, then click the image to see more of the Manor in the window.

Yes, I thought some of them were aggressive. One of them, I know was. She stabbed a boy in the leg with scissors in art class at Lyon. She sat next to me one day and stuck me with a straight pin. She was apparently really troubled. Most of them weren't as bad as that, though. In retrospect, I think some of them were just lost.
