Bethany, I forgot to answer one thing in your first post. No it wasn't government housing yet. At the time we lived there it was very desirable place to live , factory workers mainly and some that were on in high paying positions, around 64 the Manor changed to Eastwood Villiage and thats when it started to become the projects. From that point on it started going down hill, our family had moved back in 64 -71. I still hated to move but it was just getting so dangerous. When we all lived there early on it was just that nobody cared what others had, everybody just shared what they had and played well together and mothers were home so we all pretty much had real family lives. Your right!! we all had the best childhood. I know the families we all started really missed out on an era. Hyden

Thank you for the information, Hyden! Did you know a girl named Macy in your building? I remember thinking what a different (and beautiful) name that was. She lived in the building facing Eastwood next to the alley leading past the Rexall drug store. Also, A.D.F., did you live in the same building as the Lord's?
I have thought about the fact that I found this discussion and what a sense of coming full circle it has been for me. I have felt almost haunted by the memories of Stratford Manor - but in a good way, if that makes any sense! Finding others who have the same good memories has been a blessing.
About 8 years ago, we visited Ohio and went to Eastwood Elementary (the school was there & we were hoping Stratford Manor was still there). We have not visited since. We may visit again in the fall. We now live in Florida. I may order a copy of the historic aerial map just to add to my photo collection. That is just amazing to look at. I sent the link to my brother in CA.

Yes. it makes sense. We've all thought about the Manor, but since there's no longer a trace of it left, we've looked to find some kind of information about it. I think we've all had that strong sense of being compelled to search for it.
I suppose I'm just rehashing what I've posted before, but when I started looking for it, I checked Google Maps and was shocked to discover there was nothing left of the place, not even a hint it ever existed. After a couple of years or so, I looked for it again, and found the title of this thread on Google.
Thanks to Hyden for starting this thread, not only are we finding others who lived there or remember it, but are putting bits and pieces of the memory of it back together of what life was like there. The contribution of information posted on this thread is very valuable. Stratford Manor is long gone now, but it's amazing to make connections here with other people who were there and remember it. To me, it seems remarkable.
My family moved out of Stratford Manor before it changed the name and declined in quality. My memories of it are similar to those who recall it as a great place and a good life. It's a place and an experience in my life that I'll always remember.

Hyden, two of my Brothers lived on Strathmore, one lived very close to you.He had 3 daughters, two of which are about your age.Brenda & Kathy Davis,do you remember either one of them? They lived next to the cemetary.I believe Connie lived a few buildings from them on the opposite side.Seems like their building faced the ball field behind the nursery school/church.I may be wrong about that.It was so long ago.A.F.D.

I have been away from Ohio since 73 ( I left there-it didn't leave me). it did change the name to Anderson jr. High I think. Now it may have another name Betty Hyden

I don't remember the Teen Club - I think I was too young!
Did any of you know Vicki Milligan - a cute red haired girl - she was about 15 when I was in first grade and lived in an apt. on Strathmore Drive where it dead ended (near a cornfield - just below the softball field and Eastwood Elementary). Her younger sister, Patty, was my best friend.

When we moved from Stratford Manor in 1961, we moved to Anderson Township (Forestville) and I attended Anderson Elementary Anderson Jr. High and Anderson High School in Forestivlle. Maybe students from Lyons were reassigned to Anderson Jr. High later on...?
