Default Eastwood Shopping Center 1968

The details are very difficult to make out but I'll try to make some pointers that may help figure out what we're looking at.

The first image shows an overall aerial view of the shopping area in 1968. The street to the right is Eastwood Drive. Near the bottom of the photo is Duck Creek Road. The grocery store is shown as a larger white rectangle. Connected above the store (also in white) are the smaller shops with cars parked in front of them. I'm guessing the day care and clinic are at the upper left of the stores.

Here is a closer view of the shopping center. The dark rectangle above with a slash through it is a grassy area with a diagonal sidewalk going through it.

My Mom made the greatest malts and do you remember the iceball machine? The store had lots of candy, records, toys, magazines, makeup. Mom worked the entire store--both sides, if you remember that. Love those cherry cokes that were served in the original coke glasses!! I had a set that I bought from the salesman, but I've broken everyone except one that I still have. Do you remember Thriftway, a bakery, pizza parlor, barber shop (Dave the barber), and possibly another store?
That is awesome that she was your mom!! And I remember her name, now! She was always so nice to me. I was a little kid and was always getting elbowed out of the way and she used to make the other kids make room for me. She really made me feel like I counted. I do remember that she was at the checkout, too. I also loved those cherry cokes! That drugstore was one of my fondest memories from that time. I didn't know it's history, just that your mom was very nice.

I definitely remember the Thriftway and pizza parlor and seem to remember a barber shop.

If you haven't already seen it, you can see (just barely though) the drug store, grocery, etc., in this 1968 aerial image. I can't remember what the grocery store was called when I lived there. Don't remember a bakery either, although it might have been there in the 50s. The pizza parlor must have come along after we left.

I can't say that I remember him, A.F.D. He might not have been there in 63?

Ronnie and me were talking on the phone about the drug store, I guess it probably was your mother working and how we would order drinks called ( I don't know how to spell it , so it sounds like) False Fates , it was different flavors.. lime, orange grape, cherry. The wood phone booths....Thrithway closing at 6:00 PM and all day Sundays. WOW!! Shwanoe did you say you graduated from Withrow? What year? Looking forward to your posts, Hyden
I remember phosphates!! I used to have trouble deciding on whether I wanted a cherry phosphate or a cherry coke. (I still have a hard time with the "easy" decisions...) I had forgotten about the wooden phone booths. I really liked that drugstore. I also had some friends/classmates that lived in Shwanoe Trail, but can't remember any of their names now. The only one I remember was a girl named Carol but can't remember her last name.

ChiDiana, That was my favorite, anything with cherry in it. I buy cherry surup like what you use for snow cones and put it in my pop myself, Coke or Pepsi doesn't come close with their mixture. I don't drink much pop though, mostly coffee. But when I get to Cincinnati one of the first things I do is go to Frishes and order Fish sandwich, onion rings and cherry coke. YUM YUM ! I might be there next month or April. Hyden
