I'm coming into this discussion a little late, and I may not be able to add much to it on my own. But my parents lived in Stratford Manor after they got married in 1960. If there is something in particular you'd like to know, I could see what my mom remembers about it.

Hi Aquila. Glad to have you join us on this thread.

Since Stratford Manor/Eastwood Village no longer exists, it's mostly nostalgic. But it's fun to discuss and post photos of what it was like. I was already gone from the Manor when your parents moved there, but it's still interesting to hear the views and experiences of other people who remember it and lived there.

Does your mom remember the name of the street they lived on?

Kingsley Drive. They weren't there very long.

Thank you for the welcome.

How long did your parents live in the Manor? BTW, we lived at 5049 Kingsley Drive, Apt. B. Small world, isn't it?

Yep, it is - and getting smaller every day.

I vaguely remember seeing Stratford Manor while travelling along I-71 as a kid, before they tore it all down. (I even remember the news about them tearing it town to make way for 5/3rd Bank and other commercial buildings in there.)

Okay....correction to my above statement: My mom and dad didn't live there until after my brother was born, and he was born in 1962. So that means they lived there in 1963-1964. My mom thinks the address was 5091 Kingsley. She and my dad both confirmed it was in that curve. They lived in a second floor apartment, right above a family that had a lot of kids. Across the hall from them was a thin girl that wore glasses. My mom and dad had a red 1963 Volkswagen Beetle at the time.

My mom also says that Stratford Manor was built right after WW2 as housing for soldiers returning from the war.

5091 Kingsley would've been on the same side of the drive as our apartment, fairly close but a little past us. I also remember the drive curved to the north.

As I understand the founding of Stratford Manor, it was originally built to accommodate factory workers, but I don't doubt many of those workers were soldiers returning from the war. I think an earlier post of mine includes a quote (and link) from the National Historical Register that briefly describes the foundation of the Manor. It seems like there was also some mention about a golf course that occupied the area at least part of the Manor was built on. I'd have to look back at it to be sure about that.

Oh, I have no doubt that what you're saying about its founding is true. My mom wasn't certain about a whole lot, other than to say she thought it had something to do with providing housing for soldiers after the war. Since they weren't there very long, it's possible she misunderstood why they were built. I haven't actually read this thread in its entirety, so I missed your earlier post. I'll have to go through and read it all.
