Default Moms and Dads where would be best?

My family is relocating to Cincy from Virginia Beach! We are both originally from NE Ohio so we know the value of the homes as well as feeling Ohio is a good place to raise kids. I have reviewed the public school listings and concluded that one of the following would meet our needs: Liberty Township, Mason or Kings Mills. Springboro looks good but may be quite a commute if my husband works in the city. I would love to be in a safe area with really great opportunities for my kids who will just be starting elem. school.
I love the idea of a small town, but from the data I have studied in the region I am wary of being in a hickish environment.
Is there anyplace north of the outerbelt where you would have the best of both worlds, (educated people, great schools, safety ,etc.)? Also if anyone knows of the tax rate differences in the areas I mentioned that would be good to know. Thanks so much!

One of the best resources I have found to gain info on ANY city is to contact the Chamber of Commerce - directly.

I recently was doing a job search - thinking of relocating to Orlando or Tampa due to job situation in KY - and went straight to the C of C. I received an alnost immediate email back, with the exact phone, address, email to contact to have questions answered.

I believe this is a good place to strat, as most cities are always looking for new blood - especially if they are growing and thriving.

It would absolutely be the first place I would go!

Good Luck!

(We have thought about Virginia Beach also - my husband is searching for employment in IT, the market is tough, and sometimes you just have to go where the jobs are! My brother lives in the D.C. area, and I am awaiting info from him on the neighborhoods. Will pass it along when I get it! )

Default Wyoming, Oh

I have a friend who is well travelled as her husband works for a hospital and has lived all over the country. She was originally from NYC and lived in Wyoming, OH for over 10 years. She misses it terribly. She said the school was unbelievable, and it was a small tight-knit community. She said it was mostly professional types, lawyers, doctors and high level from PGE. All I know is her 4 children loved it and miss it terribly. When they moved, her children were ahead academically and were given a great education there. Also 2 of her children are currently in college and doing very well. She also mentioned Kings Mill as a possibility

Wyoming, Ohio is a great little town. And Kings Mills is one of my favorite Cincinnati suburbs.

Default A great place to live

We currently live north of Cincinnati in an area called Maineville. It is convenient, right off of Route 71, close to King's Island, great schools, frindly neighbors, and a very safe environment. We have a beautiful 4 bedroom home with a two car garage, large fensed yard, and finished basement. Our home would sell for around $205,000!! Although there is farm land nearby, many new subdivisions and shopping areas are being built. The Mason area is also wonderful, but a bit more pricey. Expect to pay $450,000-$650,00 for a similar home. The school system is also very large there (58 kindergarten teachers), They have opted to keep all children together at the same age level, as opposed to having neighborhood schools. that being said, it is a top rated district.

Maineville is a very nice area. Its growing quickly though, but they control the growth very well.

Default Look to Lebanon

If you like the Warren County area you should look to Lebanon. You can find houses at all price ranges and the schools are wonderful. We lived there for 6 years before moving out to Charlotte recently. Our daughter went to school from kindergarten through the 3rd grade. The teachers are wonderful and she is now way ahead of the kids out here in the Charlotte area.
Lebanon has the charm of a small town but it is has right off of interstate 71 and the taxes are much cheaper than Kings Mill or Mason.

if you plan to BUY a house, then go to Mason or KingsMills. Land in Warren Co is half that in Liberty Twp.

Liberty Twp is a nice place, the school system is great, Lakota School District is HUGE and actually knows how to spend the tax dollars, although, they could do better.

Mason would be my second choice.

AVOID Hamilton County, the inmates are running the aslyum.

I've lived in Cincinnati my whole life and there are many nice areas that would meet your requirements. Wyoming is beautiful and the schools are excellent and have been for the last thirty years. The best word to describe Wyoming is charming. I lived there and loved walking to the library, local restaurants, the fruit market, etc. Blue Ash is convenient to I-71 and I-275, has a great downtown, a terrific recreation center, and great leadership that continuously works on improving Blue Ash. They also have excellent schools - Sycamore Schools. They do have neighborhood schools. It was also chosen as one of the best places in the country to raise a family. Look at their website for more info. I currently live in Montgomery which is also in the Sycamore School District. I can walk to two parks and a nature preserve from my house.

Default Look at Northern KY

Depends on what type of housing you want...
I live in Kenton County - Villa Hills, KY -- it's nice. Great schools, although we'll be sending catholic schools when they are of age.

I've lived in Park Hills and Covington in the past (owned homes each time). My in laws are in Ft Wright.. These are cute towns with nice homes that are not brand new. The older ones are really charming.

We chose Villa b/c we wanted to be in a more subdivision like area, but not the oober planned subdivisions out there where each house looks like the next. We settled on a house that was under 300k but two streets over they have 1M+ houses and a few street in the other direction houses around 150k. All clean, quiet and safe. I like the mixed up use of land and seeing the different types of architecture and mature trees.

We are very close to Crestview Hills where I do a lot of shpping. We also shoot up to OH for their malls as well. There are back roads I take to pick up highway and avoid the worst traffic.

As far as Springboro, I've live there.. it's nice but driving down 75 in rush house sucks. If you work downtown, live in N.KY. If you work in Mason, try Lebanon or the outskirts -- in some the unincorp areas.. there are still good schools and lower prices for more house and more land.
Good luck.
Tracey
