MLS board of governors had a meeting today. However they did not vote on awarding Cincinnati the expansion, like some had suggested. So a decision is being delayed again. I suppose Garber wants to announce it in style by visiting Cincinnati or they honestly would prefer that Sacramento gets thr bidand are buying Sacramento more time to find a suitable investor.

Why isn't Cincinnati pursuing an NBA or NHL franchise and instead of a new MLS Stadium, upgrade and replace its old and outdated riverfront arena?

An upgraded or brand new arena would reap more benefits for the city generally.

Because the owners are paying for the entire stadium.

So why isn't Cincinnati pursuing an NHL or NBA franchise? A new or vastly upgraded arena would reap major collateral benefits for the city and region. Maybe an NHL or NBA would assist or pay for a brand new arena.

The potential MLS owners are paying for all construction costs? This is the reason Cincinnati is pursuing an MLS franchise?

The city of Cincinnati is not pursing an MLS franchise. The ownership group of FC Cincinnati is and they have asked for and received help from the city for infrastructure around the stadium. FCC is paying to build the stadium. US Bank Arena is not city owned and any renovations or pursuiant of an NBA/NHL would have to come from Nederlander Entertainment Group, which is the group that owns US Bank Arena.

Of course I realize the city itself isn't pursuing a NHL/NBA franchise but the ''city'' would get a two-fer with a franchise and a new arena.

No ownership group or other potential for an NBA or NHL franchise. Understood.

Not sure how well the NHL would do here. They had the Stingers for a couple of seasons when the WHA was still around but they were not one of the teams invited to merge with the NHL in 1979. Highly suspect this is a minor league hockey town for the foreseeable future. NBA would have so much competition with UC, Xavier, KY and NKY that would also be a difficult sell.

They did well and didn't survive the Cincinnati market

Being a southern Ohio metro, Cincinnati has never clamored for a NHL team as have cities further north and northeast. Its interest in such cold-weather sports has been lukewarm, at best. The same goes for the NBA; ever since the Royals left town eons ago, Cincinnati sports fans have, for the most part, centered attention on their metro's evolution into an epicenter of NCAA basketball.

As also mentioned above, the groundswell of enthusiasm for FCC has been phenomenal, but not surprising considering the thousands of millennials throughout the region. It's their time now and their dream of a world-class MLS franchise is on the horizon. In that FCC's stadium will be in West End, just across the parkway from OTR, is bound to usher in a lucrative, 21st century sports era in the heart of Cincinnati.

MLS in town Tuesday for "Major Announcement." This is basically the non-announcement announcement that FC Cincinnati has been invited to join MLS.
