Default Do I need a new driver's license?

I'll be moving to Cincinnati from Connecticut. Will I have to get an OH driver's license? If so, how soon, and where?

Thanks for any help.

I think they say within 30 days of when you sign a lease here, but I would think if your license was valid in another state it would be up to you.

I believe that most state require you to get a new license within 30 days of obtaining employment and/or putting children in school. The other reason to obtaining a new license is so that you may vote in elections in your new home state. (You DO vote, don't you?) Unless you are transferring a CDL, you should only have to take a written test. Ohio's test is computerized and automatically shuts off as soon as you reach a passing score (at least it is for the CDL HAZMAT test) Best of luck and welcome!

Don't put off getting a new license - you'll get over how the photo turns out! Seriously, though, it'll make life that much easier. Bars and liquor stores, at least in MA around where I live, are getting fanatical about "carding" people. Some businesses do it if you so much as look under FORTY. Then they refuse your business if you have an out-of-state license. Forget about cashing a check, if that's done in person any more (LOL), too. The financial institution will be after more proof of identity and residence than most of us own.

Ohio driver's licenses are good for five years, as they are anywhere. Many moons ago, when I transferred licenses all I had to do was show up with something showing where I lived - no test. It's not that big of a hassle. RMV listings should be under "Ohio" in the phone book.

Ohio driver's licenses are valid for 4 years. To get official answers to all your questions, it is best to check out Driver License Information

This is the official site of the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

Default New DL

Thanks everyone. I do need to get a new DL, and I'll have to take the Ohio written test. That Web site has a section for people who are "New to Ohio" and it explains exactly how to proceed. Good information.
