Where is this Downtown Cincy is dead at night coming from? If that were the case, you wouldn't have seen a food joint open it's hours until 4 a.m. and 20+ restaurants, lounges and bars open up just within a 24 month period.
LOL ... where are you guys from? Or better yet, where have you been?
Yeah, OTR is coming back strong. Because of the success of the Gateway Quarter ... 3CDC has gone to city council to rehab a hundred more units ... Where do you live?
Just The Banks alone annihilates Charlotte ... times 10.
I just took a look at DT Charlottes Bar/Restaurant/Lounge list and I don't want to belittle the city, but it's a joke compared to DT Cincy's list. It really is.

I'm not going to get into a debate with someone that only knows a city because of a google search. My opinions are based on experience from living in both cities and frequent visits after moving to Charlotte. I love both cities, can't really say that I love one more than the other. As I have stated in other posts, both are great cities, unique in their own way. The purpose of the OP was to find the similarities and differences of the two cities. I think that has been accomplished. Time to move on.
I will say this to Cincy-Rise, I like your passion for your city even if I don't agree with some of your assessments. I just fear that too many people around you don't have the same vision. I hope I'm wrong - I want Cincy to rise to be a great city again (in the world's eyes, not just ours).

The original price point included the ballparks on the river and totals over $2 BILLION dollars worth of development; 20 acres of development, a 40 acre park (along with the other riverfront park), neighborhood district on Cincinnati's riverfront between Paul Brown Stadium and Great American Ball Park. Currently that land is occupied by parking lots, the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, Developers hope to build up to 1,800 apartments and condominiums, up to 400,000 square feet of retail space, up to 1 million square feet of office space and up to 400,000 square feet of hotel space. The exact amount of each type of space has not been determined. The maximum square footage is 2.8 million. The development will also include an expansive riverfront park.
... There's just nothing like this or comparable in Charlotte.
This is one project out of dozens ... really, there's no comparison and you'd have to be a fool or not live here to not know what's going on.
I understand you visit every now and then, but you're more than like not visiting anywhere in the city, I say this because you mentioned a lack of development in OTR and Downtown, but failed to mention any projects that are in the works as we speak. Why?

Downtown Charlotte is very lively...especially compared to DT Cincy. I go to several Reds and Bengals games every year and there is nothing but people running to their cars. Don't act like you know a city after spending a few weeks here - especially when your references are Gastonia and Huntersville. Huntersville is okay, but it's the sticks. Gastonia wouldn't be worth a good **** if it were on fire.

so you are advocating burning down a predominately black neighborhood?

There is nothing wrong with Charlotte, it is a fine city, but Cincinnati is being overly trashed.

Come on now..seriously. Black, white , yellow or whatever...it was my way of expressing that I think the OTR area is going to take a lot more than redoing a few old houses to be a desirable area. Perhaps that was a poor choice of words - now that you point that out. I apologize if I offeneded anyone. To me it has nothing to do with color, but everything to do with socio-economics, drugs and safety. To actually turn an area around like that it takes years, possibly decades. But it CAN be done.
I also agree with you that Cincy is overly trashed on these forums. I've said it in most of my posts and I'll say it again - I LOVE CINCINNATI! I was just giving my honest opinion in comparing the two cities.

It IS being done. You've got 3CDC hitting up south OTR and Jim Moll attacking north of Liberty ... soon enough these rehabbed areas will come together. Will it take years, probably so ... decades, I don't see that happening as both have an interest in the area by way of civic pride and their pocket books!
I respect your opinion and don't care to argue about it any longer and I apologize if I offended you in regards to Charlotte.
No one wants to see their choice on where to settle and grow and raise a family trashed by someone else ... it's a personal attack and can be offensive because it points to making poor choices on the homeowner's end. People never look at it like that on City-Data ... and most people haven't been in these areas that their putting down in years.

Agreed. I look forward to visiting the area on my next visit.
