We are moving to OTR/Brewery District in a few months. We are buying a large brownstone currently 4 units and doing a high end, back to single family restoration not a loft style rehab. I am not new to Urban Pioneering having turned around homes and neighborhoods in both Indianapolis and Louisville so suburbanites please save the "are you crazy comments". I know what I am doing. My question is more one of resources. I been doing restoration for years so I have the work end of things covered. What I need to know are things like convenient/close Home Improvement stores. Is there a real lumber yard around anywhere and is there any legitamate Historic salvage dealers in town. If they can't prove how they got it I won't buy it. OTR/Brewery district has great potential and we decided on Cincinnati as a new home for ourselves and our business after visiting 10 other midwest cities in 5 states, so we are pleased with our choice. But need to hit the ground running so any recomendations of suppliers are helpful.

restorationconsultant, welcome to the neighborhood!!!

More than likely the most important store you will ever step into is Home Emporium off the Red Bank Rd exit! Wholesale: HW, tile, granite, light fixtures, sinks, cabinetry, etc ... you name it!

I also go to the Lowes and Home Depot off the same exit.

10 mins. from DT Cincy. Go NB on 71, take Ridge N. (exit 8C or 8A?). Go left at light. Go down till you hit the 4-way stop light (Wendy's is on your right), Lowes is on your left, Home Depot is on your right, and Home Emporium is a little further down on your left.

Welcome to Cincinnati!!

I do not live in the Cincinnati metro, but its awesome to see what people like yourself are doing to get people attracted back to city living. I too plan on moving to one of the new lofts in Cleveland in a couple of years.

Agreed. One day I will take a trip down there to see how much it has changed. Will be nice to see folk once again sitting out and enjoying life instead of being afraid to come out. Things are looking up.

Thanks for the information right now its about 8 minutes to the major chain improvement stores from downtown indy, fortunately Indy has a downtown Ace hardware and a couple of independents, but it sounds like I will be able to find what I need, without too much of a problem.

Wooden Nickel - one of the largest architechtural salvage dealers in the midwest. There's a company in dayton as well, but Wooden Nickel should be convenient to you in downtown Cinci!

Good luck with the project - sounds like fun!

Oh, there's a place on Main St., can't think of the name though ... maybe someone can help me out??? It's near ACME Locksmith ...

... but, as a rehabber there is nothing compared to Home Emporium. Trust me, the savings are ridiculous. An entire slab of granite countertops: $100. No joke.

Are you thinking of Greg's Antiques?

I just did a video on the OTR redevelopments:

Enquirer.com - Video Player 2.0

There is an office for the Gateway Quarter at 12th & Vine; they are all developers working together to improve OTR. They might be some good connections for you to meet.
