I know what you mean blue...I went to Charlotte to visit in Oct and I wasn't impressed at all. So I am trying my hands at the west. I will be visting LA hopefully end of March beginning of April and then Again in Late June. I was looking at a show about 3 months ago that said majority of minorities will not be in the midwest or east anymore. the majority of them will be back in the South and West. That I do agree with

I am originally from Toledo and there was nothing there when I left and there is nothing there now. I just know that it's hard to get your feet in the door if you don't know people. and what also kills me is when they beg you to come and register at the temp agencies and then try to send you to jobs like Data Entry or Cus Service or something that I can get on my own. I had one chic tell me well your longtime goal is to be a Business Analyst I said no that's my short term goal. They kill me like I am uneducated and that my Bachelors degree in IT is comparable to their High School diploma. Give me a break!!

Our own community can be the worst, I remember working in a low-paying CSR job years ago and my biggest goal was to complete my degree and move on...Well my co-workers were always asking me "why are you trying to get a degree?". STUPID... just plain stupid. These same people are in the same job making about $3 more on the hour... Ughhh!... However, the same treatment comes from temp agencies and employers that want to nickel and dime you at every chance. No the area is not the most expensive HOWEVER, we aren't super cheap if you are moving to a NICE area...Most brand new homes here are close to $300k out in Liberty Twp and WestChester..
My husband is not from here (I could not date ANY of these lazy Cincy men) and he hates it here with a passion. It is that constant "what school did you go to?" ---meaning HS/what class are you from? that drives him up a wall.

Quote by BigBlueLandRover...Mason is ok-but they are snotty out that way and aren't welcoming to blacks either.

By generalizing an entire city, don't you think you are doing exactly what the ignorant backwards people do with regard to race? I live in Mason, having moved here from Detroit, and I can honestly say that I feel very welcome here. I travel out of town frequently and have no issue with finding a neighbor to get my mail or offer to cut my grass while I am out of town, even though I am the "newbie" on the block. Everyone's experience is different, but I am very happy here in Mason and would recommend it to any friend or family member who was considering moving to the area. In case you are wondering, I am a black male by the way.

Just wanted to add the perspective of someone who actually lives in the area, because often times most of the negative comments come from those who don't actually reside there...see Cincinnati, Detroit, and other cities that frequently get bashed by those who haven't been there in years. Not saying Mason is in that category of course, but comments by those who don't actually live somewhere should always be taken with a grain of salt that's all.

I don't live there. I used to work out that way and that is how I was treated. However, with time people CAN change.

Thanks for your perspective.

You know, I am always surprised to hear people complaining about white racists in Mason/Lebanon,etc. Where have they been going to hide when I've visited (professionally and otherwise) over the last twenty years or so? The only place in Ohio where I ever got decked with the N-word was in Toledo, and we were taking that sub-genius back to prison, in his hometown of Indianapolis. Go figure. Aren't you the person who stated that I might not be able to recognize white racism? Why? Black is black, isn't it? Anyway, I have never had exposure to that kind of crap north of Cincy, but, in the city,wellllll...............

Atlanta has always seemed like a good town to be black in, if you know what I mean, but its just way too big for me. Chattanooga and Knoxville have become friendlier to AA and other nonwhite people in the past decade, and are smaller without being podunks. Derrick have you thought of trying either of those cities? I am trying to relocate to Chattanooga, and in my visits have felt really comfortable there. Neither city has given me that creeped out feeling, unlike downtown Cincy, or anywhere in Indy, where I might as well be urinating on white passersby, as saying hello. Zorst, Paintballer, and Subway should experience two weeks of black life, before flapping away about how diverse Cincinnati is. The people in the northern suburbs have always treated me like any other person, but Cincy proper is as diversity minded as an old fashioned Klan rally. Unfortunately, Lexington,Ky has many of the same idiots, so this old L.E.O. is moving out very soon. I wonder if the aforementioned three posters work in law enforcement. Their sentiments (UGH!) sound so familiar......

Don't forget the Indian Hill, Madeira, and Mariemont area. Those are upscale neighborhoods that don't really care about race, as long as you have nice things!!

You want AA friendly areas in Cincinnati, here you they go. Lincoln Heights, Avondale, Forest Park, Woodlawn, Walnut Hills, Evanston, OTR, Mt. Auburn, Madisonville, MT. Healthy, Seven Hills, Price Hill, Fairmont(north & south), Westwood, Hazelwood, Bond Hill, Roselawn, Lockland, College Hill, North College Hill, Northside, West end, And Corryville. In other words, the only AA friendly areas on Cincy are the areas with black populations. I'm from Athens, ALA and it's 10 times more racism practiced here than in Athens.

Default not surprised

i definately have to agree with kingkatanga. really the only areas that are accepting to african americans are the areas with an large AA population. if i were an african american looking to live in the cinti area, i def would not live in the suburbs on the east or west side. basically the only suburbs that i would feel comfortable in are to the north (mt healthy, north college hill, seven hills, forrest park, area) NOT ANDERSON!!! i realize the original poster did not know much about the area, but yeah, the majority of white ppl in the cinti area are very prejudgemental.
