Why would you say Hi to other young black men? Why not say Hi to all people whom you met eye contact with (if you're the saying Hi/friendly type? That's the problem right there. All races can be equally racist. Think about what you wrote. I am friendly to all races. We are all Americans. I can't believe I'm reading some of the things I am in these posts. There is no geographic solution to racism. Anyplace you go, you can find either acceptance or racism. It depends on how you treat others. I grew up in an area predominately Asian-Pacific Islander with blacks and whites too. As a white person, it wasn't easy fitting in until I figured out the key was to "kill em with kindness" only then was I accepted by all races. Please don't ask me if I know what it's like to be stared at, treated differently, etc. I am white, my husband (of over 20 years) is Asian, my daughter Hawaiian, Japanese, Portuguese and Puerto Rican, my sons 1/2, 1/2 and my daughter in law to be African American AND we live in a little village of 1500 in Appalachia, Southeast Ohio. Trust me, California or Hawaii can be just as racist, they just hide it better. It's mainly about what you project on to others. I'm sure you're a wonderful person, let other's see that and they see, but won't care about your color.

This is the whole point. If you want people to be friendly to you, make the first move and be friendly to them. I'm betting our OP did not exuded friendliness. He probably had a stand-offish approach so people were stand-offish.

I chose to rent instead of buying as I wanted to learn the area first. So I looked around and tryed to find a safe neighborhood, and good schools for my kids. I chose Anderson Township, but what I didn't realize was we would be the only African American Family, where I live. Me and my wife are terrified, the white people around look at us and treat us like second class citizens. Even though I have the most expensive car, and probably make more money than any of them, I feel like the enemy. Cincinnati is a disappointing city, because of its deep racial divides. We take our daugther across town, to a more diverse day care even though its out of our way, thats a shame to have to do that. I regret signing my lease, and regret moving to a city that is touted as one of the best, but actually is one with the most problems. If your African American don't stop on the lower west side!

You don't live in Cincinnati. If you move to Cincinnati, you'll notice something ... you ready for this ....

Half of the city is BLACK. There are many wealthy successful blacks that live in the city. Hell, my next door neighbor is one and probably drives a better car than you and probably has a better job. I'm white and I wouldn't move to Anderson, because of the whiteness.

Default I Feel Your Pain!

I totally understand where 'The Reeds' is coming from! I am in the process of relocating to Cincy from Chicago and quite disappointed by how prevelant racial issues are. I am a mid-20's african american woman and am moving to Cincy with my husband and daughter and we felt the racial tensions BAD on our visits there a couple months ago. We went to Smokey Bones Restaurant on Beechmont Ave and ppl were looking at us as if we had three heads. Also, not to mention we went to Florence, KY and I thought we were going to get lynched! We did end up moving into an apt in Southgate/Newport, KY...but simply b/c it is close to my work (I work in Fountain Square)- can't beat a 5 mile commute. My daughter's school is farther in KY (by Alexandria) and this worries me greatly. The school is Crossroads Elementary and they don't seem too fond of African Americans (based on some stares and whispers we got when going to register). I will keep a positive attitude for now and we'll see what happens...

Default And another thing....

Everyone says if you're black you should move up north by Forest Park, Springfield Twnship etc....well that's fine and all, but then you're stuck with a nasty commute! I thought long and hard about Westchester before deciding on NoKY...and what made my decision for me was the commute. I did not want to deal with I-75 and def not I-71 morning and evening rush hour traffic. In fact, I can't deal w/ it b/c I have a school-aged daughter that we have to accomodate. I don't know if anyone knows anything about the Chicago area...but I currently live somewhere called Oak Park, IL and I wish the Cincy area had a place like that.

I looked at at apt complex in Pleasant Ridge and it was old and broke down looking...I had no desire to move there. I can't remember the name of the apt complex, but it was a Fath community.

I saw you post this to someone earlier and your posts are really not all that helpful. The black people that live in the actually boundaries on Cincinnati live in bad, run-down neighborhoods (like OTR, etc). And then if you live in the "Cincy Proper" as I've heard it referred to, the public school is CRAP. So, I'd love for you to tell me somewhere w/n Cincy limits that you see upper class black people that isn't ghetto and has decent public schools...places like Anderson and NoKY might as well be Cincy as they are only a few miles away.

Yes, you read that previous post before, because I just posted it on the same page as this. I just copied it and pasted it, because the author of this thread made the comment about "Cincinnati" when he lives in Anderson and the two are not the same at all, especially on paper ... a few hours later, you go and post the same thing (different city) and you too do not live in the city? lol.

I will try to be a little more helpful later on tonight, but in the mean time Anderson,
Newport, and Florence (actually most of noky) ... are all white man's land. There are areas like this in any major metro. You guys were looking for diverse areas and the one's you picked were a little humorous to say the least. I'm not poking fun, it's just funny ... that's all.

This is a VERY racist comment. The wealthy black people that live in the city, work hard and have earned what they have. Being wealthy is not something that's handed to you. This applies to whites as well.

Newport is about 93% white ... in other words, Blue Ash (another area known for being heavily white) is more racially diverse than Newport.

Like I said, I am white and I live in the city and I avoid Anderson. It just feels weird, it's so white.

I will be more helpful tonight.
