Also, I might add ... Chicago is one of the most segregated metros in the midwest.

City-Data is full of folks that get off on bashing other people's city as well as their own ... it's something that's psychological ... mostly stemming from pride or insecurities. The reason I say this: Seriously, go ahead and search for "racist" or "racism" and what you will find is that in every single city and every single state, one will claim that the city they reside in is racist ... is it? I don't know, maybe ... I don't think that this social problem has been cured. This is something that needs to be dealt with on the inside.

I took the liberty for you! Here you are, all 33 pages! ... and we'll start with Los Angeles and then it looks like too many folks are chit-chatting about Chicago being racist ... you might have to skip a page or two ...

Chicago is kind of segregated, but it's big enough that you can avoid the areas you may not feel welcome easily. And the diff with Chicago and Cincy is that some places I go in Chicago I might feel unwelcome and get little looks here and there, but in Cincy I truly feel uncomfortable and the stares are more like hate stares...totally different feel.

Default More Diversity

Have you tried looking in the Clifton Gaslight area? This is a very diverse neighborhood with many doctors, lawyers, university professors and other professionals. Most of the houses are older and have a lot of character. The public school here is a good one and the private schools nearby are also good. Not all of Cinci is true to your experience - please look around. East Walnut Hills is another area you may like as well as North Avondale. Good Luck!

I chose to rent instead of buying as I wanted to learn the area first. So I looked around and tryed to find a safe neighborhood, and good schools for my kids. I chose Anderson Township, but what I didn't realize was we would be the only African American Family, where I live. Me and my wife are terrified, the white people around look at us and treat us like second class citizens. Even though I have the most expensive car, and probably make more money than any of them, I feel like the enemy. Cincinnati is a disappointing city, because of its deep racial divides. We take our daugther across town, to a more diverse day care even though its out of our way, thats a shame to have to do that. I regret signing my lease, and regret moving to a city that is touted as one of the best, but actually is one with the most problems. If your African American don't stop on the lower west side!

Default Aahhhhhh!!!

The more replies I read to this the more frustrated I become - has anyone from Cinti ever heard of CLIFTON?!! You can find everything and everyone here - TRY IT - and try more than the suburbs before you say a place is racist. Also - I grew up in Anderson before it became "Anderson" and I knew 1 black family - unfortunately, sounds like things haven't changed much in that respect.

LizaB, give it up ...

For one, she doesn't live anywhere near the city.

HWilliams77, Chicago IS one of the most segregated city's in the midwest and nation. Period. This is not a good thing no matter how you cut it, it's just socially and economically wrong. This is why I live in the city of Cincinnati and not Anderson. ... I just hate segregation.

Half of Cinti is not black and this city really doesn't have as many WEALTHY blacks as you say. Columbus is ranked higher with more AA that are of a more wealthier status. But I can't believe people are still talking about this. America as a whole has issues...their are people prejudice against race, sex, weight.

Half of the city is BLACK. There are many wealthy successful blacks that live in the city. Hell, my next door neighbor is one and probably drives a better car than you and probably has a better job. I'm white and I wouldn't move to Anderson, because of the whiteness.

I lived in Cincinnati back in the old days,1950's. It was a segregated city in those days; white only resturants and amusement parks. Schools were beginning to intergrate but with racial upheavals and white flight to the suburbs. Cincy has an ugly history. I am white. The tensions between blacks, jews, appalachian migrants and the old german city were very bad. Everyone denied it at the time but black only was the expected and it was enforced!

Wink Give Cincinnati a chance

I'm really sorry you are having that type of experience in Anderson Township, but I'm not sure it's because of your color. We moved here 30 years ago and we still find the Cincinnati area more of a close knit area than transient areas, and not particularly warming to "outsiders." "Outsiders" to me are defined as those people who were not born and bred in the Cincinnati area. But, hey, it even comes down to the City itself ~ there is always competition amongst the people on the East side and the West side. People who have lived on the West side of town would no more think of moving to the East side, and vice versa. There are areas in Cinci where people are on the move and used to having people moving in and out of the area and with good school systems ~ Blue Ash, Montgomery, Mason, and Madeira ~ would be my first thoughts. If you need some help please let me know. keep you head up and find your perfect home and location. good luck!

Cincy-Rise, I will help you defend the great city of Cincinnati. These opinions are getting so old. If people only knew Cincinnati and how great of a city it is. Visit it today and see all the growth, then say some of this stuff.

The 50s? Are we serious? Cincinnati is not a city stuck in the 50s, things have changed. Cincinnati has a huge black population, much higher than many NE cities, Midwest cities, and Western cities. It could compete with some cities of the south even. People need to get over this segregation and take a visit to Cincinnati today. I am so tired of people basing opinions' on cities they knew 2 3 or even 4 decades ago.
