Default Covington KY good for young couple???

Yet another post from me, sorry! Covington KY was broght to my attention recently from these posts. My fiance will be working in Hebron KY and we were interested in exploring some areas in KY that are close to both Hebron and Cinncinati... Is Covington a good place for 20 something young professionals?/? We are energetic, love to go on walks (we have a dog), go to the movies, cafes. I'm just trying to get an idea of what Covington is like and what the crowd is like. I found a beautiful row home in Covington North near Mainstrasse...is this a good area, safe, things to do? Any inputs would really help out. I'm also trying to find out if Covington would be a good place for me to find a job...I'm a journalist and I'm not opposed to going into Cincinnat if we live in KY but I was just wondering. I know I've been posting a million threads, but all the advice has been extremely helpful, I hope the responses keep coming. Thanks!!!

Default Covington Kentucky

I have lived in Covington for over 20yrs. Moved there when I was 27 because I loved the old architecture and Victorian homes. More importantly I love that you are so centrally located to all of the Greater Cincinnati area. Minutes from downtown Cincinnati and the river.

My old neighbor is a journalist that worked for Cincinnati Magazine. He and his wife just moved back to Boston because of job opportunities. But they may be a good person to talk with. They are in their early 30s, lived in Covington, eventually bought a home in Covington.

This is an outstanding area, especially the area near Mainstrasse you are looking at. I am mid twenties and this is an area fun, normal people my age (and older / younger) hang out all the time. Brick roads, quaint bars- to tell you the truth, this is downtown Cincinnati living at its finest, complete with a free live broadcast of Reds fireworks and PA announcements over the river at night.

Another area you may want to explore based on your interests, though it is just slightly farther east from Hebron, is Newport. This is another cincinnati neighborhood with a similar young, fun, up-and-coming feel. I would recommend living somewhere near covington / newport (they are divided by the Licking River, a tributary of the ohio river) based on your interests - and Hebron won't be far away.

Good luck and welcome to the bluegrass.

Thanks CincyUK, your post was refreshing. I had been looking in Cincinnati and it just seemed like something was missing. My finace and I won't be moving until we sell our house, but I am excited to see Covington in person...

Cincinnati is right across the river, lots to do for a young couple. Downtown Cincinnati has so much going on right now, and lots of development. If or when you move, I suggest checking out Fountain Square, and the Banks is underway right now!

We looked at a house in Wallace Woods and it, as well as the neighborhood, is breathtakingly beautiful, but after visiting the area a couple of times it was decided not to ask for a proper showing. We drove around WW trying to look for a way in/out that didn't include driving though some of the worst poverty I have seen in quite some time and couldn't figure it out. I am used to some bad things in close proximity to good things, but jeezz... the vast expanse of 3rd world living conditions that we had to drive through each time was completely depressing. Yesterday after work we tried again, taking 71 south to exit 191 and onto 12th to get in and it was worse than our drive up Scott St.

I am not responding with this to knock Covington all together. I really like Mainstrasse and the river front area a lot. As another outsider, I just wanted to give a heads up on what to expect when you visit Wallace Woods.

Ooops!! I thought this was the Covington thread that mentioned Wallace Woods but I guess not. If you are doing Covington house searches you are probably going to run into and want to visit homes there anyway.
