I dont know why this bugs me, but its a peeve of mine. City of Cincinnati has 52 neighborhooods. Everything outside of those neighborhoods is Greater Cincinnati. So, maybe the question should have been "Do you have a favorite suburb in Greater Cincinnati or favorite neighborhood in the Cincinnati." I grew up in w.chester and when people asked where I lived, it was W.chester, north of Cincinnati. I dont know why it bugs me, I guess mostly because so many people slam the City and as a resident, it just bugs me. Sorry.
So if I had to pick a favorite suburb in Greater CIncinnati...it would be Mariemont (cute cute cute), Montgomery or Sycamore Twp (even though I could NEVER afford living there unless I won the lottery). In The City of CIncinnati, if I couldnt live in Hartwell...I would pick College Hill. I love the involvement from the community in College Hill and think they got great things going on there. I also would love to live downtown or in OTR, I think its old world beauty is finally being welcomed back and I would love to be a part of all that.
Sorry for my cincy rant, I know suburbs are on the "outside of a City" but ...

I've never seen this thread as a slam to the city at all; it's a straightforward question and has no connotations whatsoever, either pro-burb or anti-city.
Anyway, there was a thread about favorite city neighborhoods awhile back.

Yeah - I didn't think it was a slam either..
and I thought it was worded correctly - suburbs are suburbs of a city. That relationship to the city is what makes them a suburb.
For instance Hamilton, with its own core downtown, its separate history, its separate manufacturing and industry - I would say is a CITY, not a suburb.
But the CITY OF MASON - is a suburb on Cinci. It grew based on its proximity as a bedroom community to Cinci.
Plus I'm always confused when people speak about neighborhoods in Cinci as being suburbs - they are part of the city itself, therefore they CAN'T be suburbs.
weird. But, then again I am painfully aware of what constitutes a suburb as I grew up in a suburb of Detroit. (Original 1950's suburb that wouldn't have existed if the manufacturing workers in Detroit hadn't needed additional housing options)..

Guys.... I never said this thread was a slam to the city. Pleases re-read what I wrote. I also wrote that I understand suburbs are OUTSIDE a City.
Yes, Hamilton is a City, so would West CHester be one of IT's Suburbs since really it is closer to Hamilton than Cincinnati? I mean seriously, I dont think that matters but it does make those neighborhoods on the outside of the City limits "greater Cincinnati". Cincinnati is broken into 52 neighborhoods, many which annexed to the City of CIncinnati over the years..Hartwell back in 1912, so we were a neighborhood/suburb but now we are just one of the many neighborhoods in the City--within the City limits. Lockland, Arlington Heights,Reading, all near Hartwell are not part of CIncinnati but instead greater cincinnati. Wyoming, same thing...god forbid you tell them they are Cincinnati...they would say the same thing I am probably. St Bernard, they are smack dab in the middle of the CIty of Cincinnati with Avondale & North Avondale all around them but are they part of the City of Cincinnati? I dont know why it bugs me, but I live in the City and not in the outside area in a suburb, this is what I prefer. When people say Cincinnati they think of this huge area in the southwest corner of Ohio, but really it is only 52 small neighborhoods and greater Cincinnati is all the other areas outside the City limits.
I guess its a play of words really so please, I just added my favorites neighbohroods thats all.

I was just parroting the words you yourself chose.
Whatever.
If it doesn't matter, why did you bring it up?

oh gosh, just because the post was Do you have a favorite suburb of Cincinnati? If so, what is it? And...I of course when I read it I thought of Cincinnati neighborhoods and some of the posts here were for areas outside of the City limits and I just started rambling...I'll blame it on the coffee. I was reminded when I first started posting here that people come on this web page to find out about an area. I think if readers draw a negative conclusion about an area, per say Cincinnati, then those same people may wonder if when people say Indian Hill or West Chester, they think all those neighborhoods are part of all the crime stats posted on here about Cincinnati. That is just why I think it is a good idea to say City or Greater Cincinnati. Its just a weird thing of mine-I dont want to argue with anyone but maybe you can see what I was trying to say? I get onto anothers City page here to just read because it is a place my husband wants to move to eventually, and I know nothing about the area or state for that matter, but i read, trying to learn. I've always lived in Ohio so I know what it City and what is outside the City but others on here trying to inform themselves may not. thats all..

Wasn't trying to make it worse...
I understand what you mean, as a transplant its been hard for me to learn what is "In the city" and what is "outside the city". I have a little more familiarity than most - because I lived in Cinci (northside) for 6 months and drove all around, learning a lot of the neighborhoods..
But for a newcomer just listening to the TV - it is VERY CONFUSING.
For instance Detroit has neighborhoods, but the news would always say "Breaking News: Detroit -- "In the neighborhood of Boston Edison"... which was easier to figure out.
Anyway.. no issues here... I'm almost to the point where I understand the local newscasts (for 3 states!!)

That's because the news folks aren't clued into the fact that Cincinnati is, in fact, in Ohio. They think it's in Kentucky.

What frustrates me is that most of my favorite radio stations (WGRR and WLW, notably) are based in Cincy but I can get them clearly at home in Southern Montgomery Co. But most of the news/advertising i geared for folks who live close to or insdie of the I-275. Just how far does the "Tristate" extend? I mean, I live in one of the three states... )
