Default COVINGTON neighborhoods???

So I am looking for homes in Covington KY with my finace and we've found a few that interest us, but we haven't been to the area yet and I'm trying to find out what streets/blocks are safe and popular and which ones aren't. One of the homes is on Russell St., the other is at W. 6th St., and the other is at 1818 Greenup St. Can anyone tell me about all of these areas. Also looking for some more info on Covington; if you're from the area, would love to hear what you think about living there. We are a young, active couple. Thanks so much for the help, it's always appreciated!

That's pretty general. Yes some areas are very nice, however I find some of the areas to be rather scuzzy. I do not know the area well enough to be specific enough to help the OP, but I have been there enough to know that there are some areas that most would not want to live...given the choice of course. I'm sure many others will chime in and give you a better assessment.

Covington varies a lot block by block so if you could provide addresses on Russell and W 6th I could offer an opinion.

Greenup tends to get better the further south you go and the 1800 block is certainly better than blocks further north but not as good as further south.
Interestingly, George Reamus (inspiration for the Great Gatsby) lived at or very near 1818 Greenup in his later years (can't remember which).

You can find some nice homes with character in Peasleburg (near St Augustines) and Austinburg (near St Ben's) although these areas both seem to be in gradual decline. Also, Wallace Woods is nice and reasonably priced homes can be found on the streets just off of Wallace Ave.

Latonia has some nice places particularly in the area south of Ritte's Corner west of Decoursey and east of Winston. Also the "Little Wallace Woods" section near Holy Cross.

West Covington has some nice homes if you don't get too far off of Highway Avenue.

If you see any homes that seem remarkably cheap they are probably distressed or in very bad areas or both. Nice places in decent areas are available, however, at decent prices from time to time.

I would personally consider Ludlow, Newport and Bellevue, also. The latter two, IMO, have their "acts together" more than Covington does.

this area varies block by block so be sure to visit and see for yourself - it's pretty darn easy to tell when you are on a bad block versus a good block, and the changes are more than subtle. Given the general locations you gave, W 6th might be the best, but then again it depends on exact spot. I wouldn't go that far south on Greenup.

Remember, the closer to the river you are, the better off you are (*in most cases, once again, it is highly variable).

Good close to the river and far from the river.

Sometimes not so good in between.
