Red face Relocating 2 Ohio

Hello. I'm a 26 yr. old single female with no kids. I'm looking to relocate to Cincinatti, OH. I currently reside in Mississippi. Of course i have no idea about the community. I just know that i fell in love with the city when i visited there last summer. I have a great desire to make it my new home. Now i plan on moving within the next couple of months. If anyone has any info. on rental property in a nice area that does not exceed $600 per month, please inform me. I also will need to know of any hospitals, nursing homes, or long-term care facilities that employ CNA's. I will consider any job openings in any field. I am single. I am young. I am trying to do all of this on my own. I see myself starting a brand new life in a brand new environment. (Just trying to do something positive with my life and don't see that happening here in Ms.) Any helpful info. that anyone can offer is greatly appreciated. Please help a sister out. THANK YOU.

Hopefully this website can help you out some. It is the city's main website and it should be able to help you find work around the field you are looking for.

This is from Wikipedia. Its an article all about Cincinnati.

There are many hospitals in the area, as well as nursing homes. You will definately be able to find work here; Nurses are in HIGH demand. We have Bethesda North Hosp., Jewish Hosp., ChildrensHosp., and I believe you can look for a Christ Hosp. For rental apartments in the $600 price range. Here is a link to our local newspaper, http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/frontpage got classifieds rentals. Look in Oakley, Hyde Park (more xpensive, but ya could get lucky), Kenwood, Silverton, not Norwood (a lil more dangerous, since you are alone), Deer Park is good. It makes a big diff. if you have a car too. These places are about 15 to 7 min. outside the city. Certain places downtown can be cool and cheap, but the cheap areas are pretty dangerous.

Honestly, I am 27 and I HATE Cincy, though we do have kids. Either way, there is ALOT of crime here. Plus Cincy as not as culturally diverse as other cities are. There are racism problems, (I know I am black, italian). I am just saying keep your options open; Travel again! BUT, if you have any other Questions you can email me OldSklMarm@excite.com. Good Luck!

^ I agree. Its not a very culturally diverse city. The crime rate is also high right now.

Here are the numbers from the Census Bureau showing that Cincinnati is not diverse at all. It is mostly a black and white city:

RACE AND ETHNICITY

Number Pct

White 175,492 53.0

Black or African American 142,176 42.9

American Indian and Alaska native 709 0.2

Asian 5,132 1.5

Native Hawaiian and other Pacific islander 130 0.0

Some other race 2,093 0.6

Two or more races 5,553 1.7

Hispanic or Latino 4,230 1.3

Here is part of an article about the record homicide rate last year (2006):

Record causes city to react
Some warn trends behind the increase are spreading
BY QUAN TRUONGG | QTRUONG@ENQUIRER.COM
With 86 homicides in 2006, the year was Cincinnati's deadliest since police began keeping consistent records in 1950.
http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.d...WS01/701010330

The record number of homicides follows the recent blueprint for violent deaths - drugs, weapons and broken families.

"Ninety percent of all homicides are drug-related," said Hamilton County Coroner O'dell Owens.

Try Delhi, Westwood or Oakley. Both are decent family oriented neighborhoods and they offer decent priced housing. You may even be able to get a house for that price per month! They are also within 10 minutes of Downtown Cincinnati, University of Cincinnati and many hospitals. The westside also has a lot of nursing home facilities!

Good luck!

Clifton is probably your best bet, there are a bunch of hospitals and you should have no problem finding a place in your price range - welcome to the city!

I think all of the people who complain about the crime are just reacting to the headlines, I have lived downtown for a year and not had any problems. Even over the rhine is not bad compared to SE DC, or North philly. As long as you are not buying or selling drugs on the corner, you should not have a problem with crime.

Cincinnati is a great medium-sized big city so it has just about everything you could want without the major hassles of larger metros.

Why would someone recommend Delhi, Westwood or even Oakley to a black woman?.. Westwood has burgularly issues and it is raggedy on most parts. Delhi is westside...a culture all its own and not diverse at all.

Something no one read is that you are a CNA...In Ohio you must be a STNA. So you have to come here and get state tested and that will run you $400-$600. If you have experience then the nursing homes and agencies are your best bet. They are going to pay in the $10-$12 hr range starting out. Hospitals are not going to hire you without a referral or a friend to get you in the door. The hospitals around here are very hard to get jobs at for those entry level jobs.

Try College Hill before you try Clifton. There are some quiet streets off Hamilton ave where the apartments are $400 1br, these are NOT run down areas-as I DONT do hoods...plus I grew up there and can tell you that the area is racially mixed, they are building up Hamilton Ave. it is on the busline, close to downtown and crime is sketchy on certain blocks. As long as you aren't walking around with money in your hands and dipping in diamonds you should be ok.
