Default Oakley and Hyde Park

Hi everyone,
My husband and I and small baby are moving to Cincinnati in July, he will be working long hours at the Childrens Hospital.
We will be renting for one year and then leaving Cincinnati. I will not be working and will be by myself with the baby alot of the time. The most important requirements for me are safety and being able to get out for a walk every day to cafes, restaurants and/or shops.
Oakley and Hyde Park have been recommended to us but I would very much appreciate your advice, I have been looking at this forum for a while and you all seem very helpful!
Thanks in advance,
E

Hi Eimear,

I just moved to Hyde Park from Connecticut, two weeks ago. I'm renting an apartment. Having scoped out many of the available options, I would tell you to rent in Hyde Park or Mount Lookout. You may want to choose Hyde Park over Mount Lookout for the coming year because there will be construction/renovation beginning soon in Mount Lookout Square. Oakley would be adequate for your purposes, but Hyde Park is really superb. I am right on the square, and it's great. The place is very safe, with great options for local activities and amenities. Mt Lookout is similar, but with the construction issue looming.

FYI, I looked at the Clifton Gaslight district and toured an apartment there, and it struck me as urban-trendy and less safe/family-oriented than Hyde Park, Mt Lookout, and Oakley.

Do NOT move to Clifton. Not the nice safe area you are looking for, though it has a lot of character and certainly could be something to explore on a rainy day trip look around.

This is great advice. You cannot go wrong.

Uh-oh! I think someone just gave away their lack of familiarity with Clifton (specifically the Gas Light)! lol

I could not disagree more with the statement. It appears you lack familiarity with the subject matter.

Thanks for your replies! I have a few more questions..
Firstly, we are planning to stay in a hotel for the first week until we find our unfurnished accomodation. Are there any good second hand furniture stores that I could buy a few cheap basics until I have time to shop properly, I don't want to panic buy expensive furniture! Or what do people normally do? (in europe most places are furnished)
Secondly, I have contacted one realtor who is organising a viewing tour the day after we get there. Are there any websites that rate realtors? Or are you allowed by this site to recommend any?
Thanks again

You should look at Legacies for second-hand furniture. I just bought something there recently. They have a fairly good selection and good prices. The profits go to cancer treatment, I believe.

Here's the link:
www.LEGACIESCONSIGNMENTSHOP.COM

I'm sorry I don't know anything about real estate agents. The signs I see everywhere are for Sibcy Cline. They have an office at Edwards Rd and Erie Ave that you might want to visit. But again, I can't "recommend" anybody, because I don't have any experience to speak from.

Check Craigslist.org for furniture, too. There's plenty on there. A lot more tan you would have ever imagined. Be sure to scope out the furniture categories as well as the "free" categories. More people give away good furniture than I would have ever imagined.
