I understand inflation and that prices are climbing, but?

We had dinner at Carlo and Johnny's this week for our anniversary, as we do every year (except during COVID)

Last year the dinner was 149.00 (MrsM keeps an expense journal for budget purposes) This year, the exact same dinner. Same salad, 2 steaks and one side. We each had one drink. We are in a rut

This year, the same dinner was 270.00. A 55% cost increase is pretty hard, especially when we are retired and live on SS and MRD only

As always, the meal was spectacular, the service was great, but 55% increase in a year?

The good thing is that we buy a 50,00 gift card every time there is 4 X fuel points at Kroger, so this week's meal was paid for during COVID. We always fill both cars at the same time with 1.00 off

Back in my misspent youth, I came to Cincinnati in the fall of 1986. I didn't have a lot of money, but found a room on the corner of Elm & Ninth, across from Crosley Broadcasting. It was a basic room with a small fridge, and bed and a hotplate. The bath was shared, but it was a locked door and a bed. I was in my 20's and had all the energy in the world. Everyday, I walked from my room, across the bridge into Covington.

He had just opened his riverboat restaurant and I got a job as a dishwasher at min wage which at the time was $3.35. I saw all kinds of eye opening things, that are the result of a very high pressure job. Drinking, drugs, etc... I worked my ass off for 2 weeks worked at least 20 hrs of overtime each week (probably more). And when it came payday, I found out that I wasn't getting paid overtime. There was some kind of law that since the restaurant wasn't on land, I only got straight time. I was PISSED! I found another job and never went back. It was nuts in the back then, and it probably still is!

That is actually correct. In addition, you cannot file for workers compensation in Kentucky OR Ohio if you are working on a riverboat. You have to go through the federal system that covers all mariners.
