Temporary housing
Hello,
I've enjoyed reading all the various opinions on areas in Cincinnati. I grew up near Owensville (about 20 miles NE of the city, out near Milford and Batavia), and then moved around a bit to Chicago and then Michigan to finally finish up school here in Ann Arbor. Now my husband will graduate soon with his law degree and we've decided after much deliberation to move to Cincinnati. Even weighing his offers of more money in Chicago, we realize we can get much farther ahead financially in Cincinnati and have a lifestyle we enjoy more, especially now that we have a baby (plus there's family here for me).
Anyway, the problem now is that while I know I love Cincinnati and have enjoyed spending time in various neighborhoods, I haven't lived in several areas I find interesting. I've lived in Newtown, Eastgate, Covington... but I'm curious about places like Oakley, Montgomery, Blue Ash, Ft. Thomas and others. We will most likely choose private school for our son, so districts aren't as important, but we enjoy being a single-car family, so bus line into downtown for my husband is very important.
For now, we need to focus in on an area for this summer (May - August) while my husband completes a summer associate position downtown. The firm doesn't really offer much in the way of relocation assistance, so I'm hoping to get some tips here. I've read a lot about the neighborhoods and I'll continue browsing the forums, but does anyone know about places offering sublets or short-term leases, especially near one of the areas I mentioned? I'm anxious to just get something in place.
Thanks in advance!

Oakley is a rental based area, where as Blue Ash, and Montgomery are more owner based homes of course they have rentals available. We live in Deer Park, and it is a mix of retirees, and families (nice neighborhood)! Also Kenwood which is between Silverton, and Montgomery. Further south in oakley you can find reaaly great shopping, and some decent eateries. GooD LucK!

Try Park Hills/Ft Wright in KY
A lot of people take the bus into work downtown everyday...
There is a good mix of rental and home ownership in residential areas for you to choose from in Park Hills, Ft Wright and Ft Mitchell.
I can't speak about the other counties. I just know from living in Park Hills that there were many mult-unit places, some rental houses and duplexes mixed into the residential neighborhoods close to the bus line.
I think that would be nice for you since your going to have a baby to have that type of surroundings.
These were not your typical Apartment complexes but probably where owner lives on one side and rents out other side or investment property.
Good luck

Short term housing
Finding temporary housing can be difficult. I have stayed in short-term "corporate" apartments, and have found them to be comparable in price to staying at a Marriott. However, private landlords also tend to require a one-year lease or charge a lump sum for a shorter-term lease.
You may be interested in searching Craig's List for sublets. May-August is also prime time for college sublets, as students leave for the summer.
Good luck!

You mention Craig's List and someone else had mentioned that to me too this past weekend when I was looking at housing in the Cincy area. I am also moving there too. Could you please post a website address for that site.
Thanks!
