exactly how i feel...gold star used to be good. skyline is the classic, and hell yes, more cheese. stop being cheap, skyline!

i had two coneys today. they were so stingy with the cheese that the "coney" looked like a pecan danish with lemon icing.

gotta love this inflation and the excuses behind it. coneys floated around a buck for how many years? now it's 1.55 for a chili sandwich with a sprinkle of cheese and a party wiener lost inside .

Well maybe it's bec I have been out west so long, but lots of cheese is only good if the chili has enough zip.

Just bumping this thread with a list I found of different chili parlors around Cincinnati and NKY. Has anyone visited any of these restaurants? If so, which are good/bad/so-so. Not yet. I googled around and found a picture of the original location but was busy at the office and couldn't explore further. From this thread alone, I am guessing it is goooood, ah?

On a non-related note, I sometimes take a drive at lunchtime from work to different neighborhoods and found a brand new little burger joint that opened and could easily have existed 50 years ago. It is in Lockland in the old rundown town square area as soon as you cross the mini-bridge from Reading and is called Joe's Burgers or Joe's Diner (something like that). The place always has people in it and I am curious....hrmm.

I've only been to Pleasant Ridge Chili after the bars close so I'd be hard pressed to say if the chili actually was any good.

The Don will become famous soon enoughThe Don will become famous soon enough
Been to a few of the places on HuskerDu's list...

Sams Chili is pretty good; the sign outside says he's been in business since 1967. The menu is quite a bit larger than that of a typical chili store.

Price Hill Chili is a fixture here on the hill.. it is the place that Dick Cheney used to frequent when he came to town. And like Sam's the menu is quite large so that Goyguy could dine there and not leave hungry.

In my opinion, neither Sams nor Price Hill is quite as good as Skyline -- but they are still very good.

Of course I've been to a number of Gold Stars - don't care for it; the flavor seems off. The one in Blue Ash just couldn't seem to get the consistancy of its chili correct.

I have not yet been to Westwood Chili - If I can interpret Mapquest correctly, it looks like it is in the place that a chicken store used to occupy. Sounds like a good cold Saturday lunch time destination for me today.

There used to be an Empress on Rapid Run Pike - anyone know if it is still there?

That's a great list. There are some there I have also never visited. I'll pass it on to my friends at CheeseConey .com, a site by some of us locals celebrating this weird and wonderful culture of 3-ways, 4-ways, 5-ways and coneys. I love your idea of setting aside one day a week to visit each of those on your list. We're talking a lot about doing the same. We call it a ConeyCrawl!
