Wow! Swampwater Grill on Kellogg Avenue! First time but will be back often! Had a groupon and went on a Saturday night - kind of early. Shared chargrilled oysters and house made jalapeño poppers! Both fantastic. I don't even like oysters and wish I had ordered more. Poppers were cheesy goodness with a bit of heat and bacon. He had shrimp and grits, I had Louisiana shrimp. Both absolutely excellent. My side of red beans and rice was nice and thick. Service was great. Our server paced it all perfectly!

A hard-won compliment given the background of the poster!
Since this thread's last incarnation, I've "discovered" and fallen in lust with Amma's Kitchen in Woes Lawn. Where I live now I can walk to FIVE Indian restaurants (with many more within an easy trip.) But none of 'em hold a candle to that bright spot on an otherwise desolate stretch of Reading Road. The hungrier you go, the better. It's the first place I've eaten - including at home - where the pine nuts in the rice pilaf crunch! The growers' associations for eggplant, cauliflower, and green beans in particular need to promote their respective veggies with the recipes used there. A mob of South Asian people is always present, pushing tables together across most of the width of the place, and "they should know" the cuisine and when it's prepared well.
As for non-chain favorites, Sugar n' Spice (also on Reading Rd) is still unequaled for a tummy-stuffing breakfast, as well as the "total experience" of seeing folks from disparate backgrounds and communities - near and far - overlook their differences and just chow down. Bond Hill, Paddock Hills, Norwood, and XU probably never get along so well anyplace else! Plus, as long as you're well behaved and the owner is wisecracking around the premises you can probably select a rubber duckie to take home.
The Goyguy Sr's are all about the occasional splurge at Salazar (no apostrophe-S at the end unless you're from the west side lol.) It got a fawning write-up in the latest Cincinnati magazine. The appeal is kind of over the head of non-foodies, though. Ditto for Nectar in Mt Lookout Square.

Nice to hear. We ate at Hotel 21C before a play last year, and really enjoyed the experience. A very electic menu, upbeat crowd, and lively bar area for before dinner drinks. It's also a good place to valet your car...especially if you're running late.

Try Big Art's BBQ in Mt. Healthy. Best BBQ in the area, better than Eli's IMO.

I agree Big Art's is excellent, but it's not in Mt Healthy. Just sayin, for people who might go there looking for it.

No. I was trying to explain to Avril Bhel's deli person that one cannot substitute turkey for sliced roast pork in a Cuban. They were my best bet. If you find a place post it up.

You are right Sarah, Big Art's BBQ is in Mt. Healthy HEIGHTS on Struble Rd. at Pippin, not Mt Healthy proper.
