Does anyone know of an old-fashioned style candy store where you buy candy in bulk and have it weighed near Cincinnati OH? We used to go way up north to Birt's in Burkettsville OH where you can bag bulk candy and we miss it dearly. Now that we have moved to Cincinnati, we are looking to start a new tradition with our 4 kids. Any suggestions? Thank you!!

Try the Supreme Nut and Candy Company. There are several locations around town. Here's their web site:

You can also try Esther Price, which sells several different kids of candy but specializes in chocolate. You can put together your own assortments. Here's their web site:

Hope this helps. And thanks for the reminder . . . time to take the kids to the candy store myself!

Thanks for the reply. I'm looking for more of a hole-in-the-wall candy store or grocery where you can scoop the candy into bags and purchase it by weight. It is more exciting for the kids (and adults too). And not necessarily so "gourmet". Anybody else have any ideas? Thank you!!

Murray Brothers Old Time Store

There might be more of these stores still around. They have big barrels filled with candy throughout the store, with small paper bags to fill. The candies are different prices per pound, so mixing them in the same bag is not practical, but it's still old-fashioned fun!

Yah, you can do that at the places I mentioned.

I remember the little mom & pop grocery in Price Hill where I grew up, where you could buy "penny candy." Show up with a couple of pop bottles (worth 2 cents each!), walk out with a small bag of candy. What could be better?

I wouldn't dismiss Supreme Nut & Candy that quickly. Sounds like it meets your requirements pretty well - at least the one in Western Hills does.
They have jars of loose candy you that you put into bags and pay by the pound. Some of the more expensive chocolates etc. are measured out by store personnel though.

Also, even your local Meijer has a bulk candy section if worse comes to worse.
