If you go to a bar to pick up women, the odds of find the one you are looking for are fairly slim. The one thing that you will probably have in common is that you both think having some drinks and hooking up sounds like fun. While that works for many people, the idea is generally more attractive to men than to women, and as a result the laws of supply and demand apply.

However, the dynamic changes when you go to see live music. In my experience, a wider variety of women will go to see the music that they like rather than the type that just go where there is booze and they can be sure that guys will hit on them. Plus, there is plenty of time before the show or between sets to strike up some conversation, and you will likely have a lot more in common if you are a fan of that musical style as well. Also, I think that having to pay for a ticket actually helps even out the male/female ratio a bit. Before I met my wife I began some great relationships at places like the Southgate House, Bogarts, and Northside Tavern just following music that I was interested in. If you are really into Gore Metal or Gangsta Rap you may need to broaden your musical tastes, though.

The only time I've ever met a girl in a bar, I had known her from years ago in college. So we had that connection and were both surprised we lived in the same area. Meeting random girls in bars however is about as unappealing - to me, at least - as it gets.
