Actually, it was at 90 7th Street East (between Main and Bowen).

I thought that they still had stage shows into the early seventies before it was raised in 1976.

The Albee served as the home of the CSO during the renovation of the Music Hall in the early 1970s.

Shubert definitely had shows into the 70s. MrsM and I went to touring Broadway shows at the Shubert and also the Taft Theaters. The Broadway Series then moved to Music Hall for a few years then back to the Taft (after renovations) then on to the Arofoff

Oh yeah - we went to see "Hair" at the Shubert somewhere back around 1970. FWIW: it seems like there was considerable opposition to the show opening in Cincinnati. If memory serves, these were some of the same people who fought to keep the Doors from appearing at Cincinnati Gardens in 1969.

Back then there was an organization called "Young Friends of the Arts" that would make remainder tickets available to students at low prices. Not just the touring Broadway shows, but also symphony, Playhouse in the Park, etc.

The Schubert was used as a church for a few years before its final demise.

Young Friends of the Arts was an annual subscription service for college and possibly high school students. I think it was 12.00 a year.

This allowed you to buy same day reserved seats for broadway touring shows at Schubert and Taft, Playhouse in the Park, Opera, Symphony, Pops(??) and ballet for 1.50 (My senior year in College, they offered 3 years for 25.00)

The seats were almost always good orchestra seats that were "held back" for media or friends of cast. We saw every touring show for years for almost less than a movie ticket.

This is how MrsM and I became addicted to Plays and musicals. Even when I was out of work, we kept subscribing to Broadway Series and Playhouse in the Park. I must admit that this is our major "vice."

Kind of related to this thread but hey, where did the name Bengals come from? From what I recall, I can't think of anything in Cincinnati that is associated with the teams name.

Joke Insurance, the name comes from the football team that played here in the mid to late 30's. I think they lasted for 2-3 years before folding.
