I think people like Skyline not so much because it's better, but because it somehow seems more "Cincinnati" to them. It's a loyalty thing.

I have to agree with you ... but I thought Stegner's out of the can was better. And the Cincinnati Recipe Chili Mix is pretty good but a bit salty.
I agree with you about Gold Star. I have been extremely disappointed at the locations out of the city.

I didn't realize Stegner's had Cincinnati-style chili. I thought it was just hotdog chili sauce.
Interesting that you mentioned the quality of out-of-town locations. I used to like the food at Taco Bell....yes, yes - I know people feel that's crap. But hey, it's fast food. Anyway, when I went to Phoenix a number of years back, I went through a Taco Bell drive-thru and was astounded at how much better it was out there than back here in Cincinnati.

The Skyline restaurants are decent in Dayton but absolutely awful in Cleveland and Columbus. In those cities, they have an expanded menu and the portions of the chili are substantially smaller than the portions in the Cincinnati stores.
Stegner's made good chili and they had great turtle and mock turtle soups. Unfortunately, they lost there business making MREs.
UDF stores are similar. I actually had to train one employee in one of the eastside Cleveland stores how to make a chocolate milk shake. She started by putting two ladles of HOT FUDGE into the cup.

LOL!! I used to work at UDF, too. And I do agree they vary from location to location. I made a mean chocolate malt. Who in the world trained the lady to make a chocolate shake using hot fudge?

I agree, Clifton and the one in Colerain by Cross County are the best (but you don't want to go all the way up to Colerain).
I would skip LaRosa's... it is an acquired taste and one trip would probably have you upset for spending your money on it.
If you want a nice overlook, go to Devou Park in Covington. During the day, you can go atop the Carew Tower as well. If you're going to a game, take a walk across the Purple People Bridge. It's nice and right next to the field.
Enjoy your visit.

The rotating Riverview Restaurant on top of the hotel in Covington (is it the Radisson now?) is a really nice place to end an evening with a nightcap or desert. Great view of the City after dark and very democratic since it rotates for all to have a great view at one point or another.

I would skip this too. The food is overpriced and not very good. Right up the hill from this place is Devou Park if you want a stunning view of the city, or just go to the Carew Tower downtown, the view there is great too. There's tons of places to eat around town that are much better and more resonably priced.
