If the OP is still looking for fireworks displays in the Midwest - Detroit puts on a great display over the River between Detroit and Windsor, Canada. You can watch from either side of the river - in the riverfront parks, or hotels.
Its part of the international freedom festival that is held each year, celebrating the good will between the two cities and countries.
One thing - if you're going into Canada though, you will need a passport or enhanced DL under the new rules.

What are ya talkin' about? Weren't you at Oktoberfest the year Weird Al Yankovic led us all in the World's Largest Chicken Dance?
But back on topic ... Lebanon used to have a nice July 4 celebration. Dunno if that's still on tap.

As I said above, Hamilton has a festival and huge parade on July 4th, culminating in a fireworks display over the Miami River later that night.

It amuses me on many levels that the same city that was up in arms over the flying pigs at Sawyer Point went on to embrace the chicken dance.
Consistency. Just one of the things you gotta love about Cincinnati.

LMAO!!
I was born and raised in Cincinnati, and I still never understood the fascination with flying pigs! I often think "it's no wonder the rest of the country sees us as backwards!" I mean, how many people across the globe say "Oooooh, let's go see the city that had a lot of pork-packing facilities, and has commemorated them at a riverfront park!"

Fourth of July offers some great firework displays in the Cincinnati area. In Fairfield go to Harbin Park. Usually a well known band, great festival and an awesome Firework display. Blue Ash is another good one. Riverbend and Coney Island (just a few miles east of Cincinnati on the 52) you get a show on the 3rd and the 4th. On the 3rd at Coney Island is the Balloon Fest sponsored by LaRosas pizza. This will be a great display of fireworks and hot air balloons. On the 4th at Riverbend, there will be the fireworks along with the Cincinnati Pops. Go to the Rozzi Fireworks website for more information on their displays.

Go down to the river!!! On July 3 there will be an all day celebration at Coney Island (I275 to the 52). This is the LaRosas Balloon Fest. THEN on the 4th, there will be a show at Riverbend (same area) with the Cincinnati Pops.
Blue Ash and Fairfield also put on some great great shows, but you will find your biggest and best down by the river!

Best 4th of July in Midwest
I used to live in Bloomington and if you don't mind traveling 3 to 4 hours go to Chicago for The Taste of Chicago it's the world's largest food festival and fireworks are on the 3rd of July over Lake Michigan.
With the Chicago's fireworks being over on the 3rd that means you could stop at Indy on your way home on the 4th for Festivities downtown including the Canal Family Fest, WFMS 4th Fest with Live entertainment and Fireworks at 9:45pm shot off the top of the Regions Bank Building. You'll get a great view from the Indiana War Memorial Plaza a few blocks North of the Soldiers and Sailors Obelisk on Meridian St.
Hope that gives you some interesting options.

For something eclectic go to Northside's Rock and Roll Carnival and 4th of July Parade
