Default Cabrewing

I usually go cabrewing a few times a year and its a great day. Ive been to the place in Newtown and its pretty good, havent been there for a couple years though. We used to go to place in Loveland, might have even been called Loveland Canoe (it has a big yellow canoe on the roof of the building) but they started checking coolers last year and that was a no go. We ended up going to a place in Morrow which is quite a ways out but its fun and they dont check coolers. What other places around the Cincy area are there? I heard there was one out in the west somewhere, like Harrison.....

G Man---how many times do we get to hear stories about people in canoes who go into the water and dont come back up. My husband is an avid water person...kayaks almost every weekend and travels out of town to find some whitewater....his trip has been interupted many of times when he has to throw a tow to someone who has no right to be on the water due to their intoxication.

Heres my advice if you are looking for water and a place to have an open cooler: buy a blow up pool and sit it in your back yard. I mean no disrespect but seriously, cabrewing is not a term that I have heard since high school--and it can be very dangerous not only for you but for anyone who may have to rescue you.

I've also used Loveland and Morrow in the past... but due to Loveland checking coolers, I also use Morrow. It is a good time

How about buying your own canoe and put in where you want.

Nothing more annoying than floating peacefully down the river, only to round a bend and see some drunken idiot barfing all over the bank. Kinda ruins the experience.

1. I go a couple times a year. Cant justify the expense of buying a canoe, i'm not that series about it. Also, i dont have anyway to transport one, i drive a Corolla. On top of that, what you are really paying for at these places is the convience of being dropped off and picked up and not having to coordinate anything. Thats why they do a good business.

2. Sure, a lot of people suck. Not only in drinking but in basically any spehere or life. I go out, have some cold suds on a hot day and enjoy the atmopshere. The river, the sun, everything. It's not my fault that some people are losers, cant handle or control their drinking and generally act like idiots. Not going to answer for them either. Save your preaching for someone else. No offense, but i got my game on lock and i'm just looking for canoeing places in Cincy, preferably on the west side. I'll call and ask if they check coolers. If you dont have something to add that is helpful to that ilk, then steer clear and dont clutter. Thank you in advance.

You can strap a canoe on about anything and a bike too. That is what we do. Take your bike downstream, lock it to a tree where you plan on getting out and ride back to your car when you are done. I wait with the kayaks, he gets the car. You can log onto craigs list or the many whitewater forums to find people who are practically giving their canoes and kayaks away due to their own upgrading. It is an investment but you also will find yourself going out more due to having your own boat and knowing all the areas that are designated put in spots.
No need to get snappy about it. My husband has had to deal with a few cuts and other injuries from helping those who choose not to wear life vests or have no idea how to scout out an area before taking a boat down it. But he is not the type of person who will float by someone struggling for their life. I worry about him but I also respect that he keeps a wet bag full of items to help people who need it on board with him at all times.
And I agree with Ohiogirl, most of us go out to enjoy the waterways and it is quite annoying to see some of the things we have witnessed and the beer cans that dont appear to be part of the natural habitat. THAT is exactly why so many streams and creeks are being shut down to boaters.

Gman, I wasn't preaching nor was I implying that you were one of those canoers that annoy me.

Perhaps it's the use of the term "cabrewing." Not only is it ridiculously immature, but it also implies that drinking beer and not canoeing is the primary activity.

Enjoy.

Great, but i asked for help on locations. If you can help with that, great. If not, you are just clutting the forum with words that can be saved for your own children.

Getting your own canoe is an interesting idea. One i may entertain in the future but i'm not at that point yet.

Cabrewing is immature? Once again, its all in the eyes of the beholder. I tend to think that unnecessary shopping is immature but if its something that makes one happy then go for it.
