Commute from downtown Cincinnati to Milford
Hello all,
I just took a job in Milford, OH. I'll be moving from the west coast so I am not real familiar with the area. So far I have been looking for apartments in downtown Cincinnati because I want to live in the city. I was hoping someone could give me an idea on what kind of commute I would be facing. I would be working a normal business schedule (9-5, M-F) and driving my own vehicle (not using public transportation). Thanks for any insight.

Under normal conditions, the trip is 31 minutes plus parking downtown. Too bad Artimis (our traffic monitoring system) does not have cameras on US 50. But you can check the attached link to get the idea on delays in the afternoon by checking it around 7:30-8 PST:

Since you'll be leaving the city when most are heading in, you'll get clear traffic on your way to Milford. Your best two options are either taking US 50 all the way out there, or the Interstates. Either way will see light traffic congestion at those times and the travel time is about the same @30-35 mins. US 50 route does have fluctuating speed limits, you'll be traveling through Tusculum, Fairfax, Mariemont, and Terrace Park into Milford. Watch your speed in Mariemont and Terrace Park, they'll get you. If you're going to the other side of Milford, or Miami Township, you'll probably be best to go 471 to 275E to SR28/US50. You'll bypass all those small towns plus the time to travel through Milford. Avoid the 71N to 275 route, heavy traffic on it's way up to Mason.
Try them both out see which one you like better Good Luck with the new job and Welcome to Cincinnati!!

471/275 is the way to go. Should take you about a half hour, unless something horrific happens.
Columbia Parkway/US 50 is a pretty drive, but going through Mariemont and Terrace Park is a PITA, especially now that Wooster Pike is down to two lanes between the two towns and suddenly everyone obeys the speed limit through Columbia Township (grrrrr).
Where precisely is your job in Milford?

275 south to 471 is only the right choice if you are at or outside the 275 interchange. If you are in Milford, Rt. 50 is shorter and almost never delayed anywhere but Columbia Pkwy, which can easily be bypasssed on Eastern or WHT, whereas 471 is just about always delayed every morning, and when that route is, it can be a long delay, especially 275 approaching the river. I would never go on 275 south to 471 unless I was outside the interchange.

About 1/2 hr, take 471 south, to 275E and you will be fine. You will be going against traffic, so you are in a good position.

OK, when someone say "Milford" I assume they mean Milford. Downtown Milford is located on US 50 and its actually 15.7 miles from 4th and Vine, with no chance of a traffic jam, except for a couple of times a year on the stretch between Delta and downtown on Columbia Parkway. And, its a very scenic drive. On the other hand, one could drive the opposite direction for a couple of miles, get on 275 and go a total of 26 miles to the same destination, where there is a traffic jam on 471 at Ohio River almost every morning. Now, if you move to Day Heights or Mt. Repose, it might be better to get right on the Xway to avoid the Milford traffic. But everyone I know who actually lives in Milford takes US 50.

And then again, the OP could just drive up I-71 and exit at Kenwood Road, hang a right and then turn left onto Shawnee Run...which would take him almost smack dab into the heart of Milford.

That would be better than 275.

Well I guess we need to know where in Milford. I disagree about the traffic jam on 471. Yes there is one, if you are driving from KY , North on 471..but I worked in KY for 14 years, and there is never a traffic jam headed south on 471, all of the traffic is coming into cincy. Clearly theres more than one way to Milford from downtown, some may be better than others depending on where in Milford the OP is headed.
