Thanks!
Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who assisted me in my trip to Cincinnati. I was able to stop at Skyline, Graeters, La Rosa's and Hofbrauhaus.
I saw the murals by the river, fountain square, and the literary club. A marvelous day spent in Cincinnati for sure!

man... Graeters, LaRosas, Skyline... that's quite a trifecta of excellence right there!

At the risk of being attacked... I wasn't a big fan of Skyline.

You wont be attacked. In fact, if you said you liked it then everyone here would know you were lying. I think in my entire life i have known NO ONE from outside of Cincy who visited and liked Skyline. Its an experience to try but i think it has to grow on you and you have to get used to it because its obviously not like normal "chilli." If you moved here you would swear by it within a month, haha.

it's definitely an "acquired taste." I started really liking Skyline after a few tries, at first I thought it was a bit watery.
I think that a lot of Skyline fans love it for nostalgia reasons more than the taste. Talk to anyone from Cincy that lives elsewhere, and they get misty-eyed talking about their Skyline!

It's okay... you missed out when you choose that slop instead of Gold Star.

No one will attack you because we understand. It's an acquired taste for people who weren't weaned on it - LOL! The next time you're in town try a cheese coney - it's a better way to wade into the whole Cincinnati chili thing. I'm so glad you were able to come here and sample our city - just like the chili, it grows on you. Best wishes!

Skyline and Goldstar seem pretty similar to me. I can see why some people may like them, and I can see why some people may not like them. I personally am not a big fan of either. Graeter's is great though!

Everyone can agree about Graeter's, but chili parlors are a whole different story. Check out cincinnatimagazine.com - the current issue has that alleged delicacy as the cover feature! I personally can't stand the stuff regardless of the purveyor. Talk about heresy. Many years ago one panel of a comic strip I was reading concerned how folks from Cincinnati love to brag about Cincy chili, but "it's the WORST chili ever!" While busting a gut laughing I promptly clipped the strip and gave it a place of honor on my refrigerator door.
Y'all come back now real soon, hear?

When you live in an area, there is some food that is peculiar to the area that all the locals like that the rest of the world "just doesn't get". As a native, I like the chili. I also like Texas chili and about 50 other varieties.
I don't get the fascination with St. Louis's toasted ravioli or Chicago's Italian Beef sandwich, the best examples of which are OK and the worst are purely wretched.
