Lou, hopefully I didn't offend you, but to see if your question was well formulated, I'd ask: "how's it working for you?" No one responded. Reason? Poorly formulated question. You gave absolutely no information about your interests or where you wanted to go or what type of place you wanted to see. This is a very knowledgeable bunch of people who post here. They know there are 200 good restaurants in the Cincinnati area. Every one of them has something to recommend them. If you want to know THEIR favorite restaurants, say "what's your favorite mid priced restaurant." Every single person on this board will know of 10 or 20 good restaurants and they will be happy to tell you which one they like best. But, just like I said, you asked the wrong question.

Here are some casual, affordable restaurants:
Behle Street, Covington www.behlestreetcafe.com
Maribelle's, Riverside (formerly East End) www.maribellestavern.com
Olives, Clifton www.olivesonludlow.com
Indigo, Hyde Park & Ft. Thomas www.myindigogrill.com
Campanello's, Downtown www.campanellos.com
I really could go on and on. If you narrow down a certain kind of food, or area of town, I can be more specific. There are plenty of good places to eat, if you look.

Check out the "sticky" thread about the meet-up which occurred this past Sunday. My most recent post there includes a list of relatively inexpensive and "unique" local places that I like. No matter where you dine, though, you have to experience Graeter's ice cream at least once. While I'm not afraid to admit that Cincinnati chili makes me retch, it is a food item peculiar to the area so should be tried.
When you have a "non-specific" appetite, good areas to stroll through include Hamilton Ave in Northside (which - happily - you've already discovered) + Mt Adams + Ludlow/Jefferson Ave in Clifton + Hyde Park & Mt Lookout Squares. Each of those neighborhoods harbors a variety of eating places.
Lastly, I need to put in a plug for Amma's Kitchen (known until a year or two ago as Udipi; only the name changed.) It's a godsend for vegetarians - nothing that they serve ever swam, crawled, walked, or flew. On Wednesdays they even go totally vegan. While I'm a confirmed omnivore, I love me some spicy food and am unfazed by meatless meals. So when a longtime friend who's a "veggie" marked a milestone birthday recently, I knew exactly where to fete the occasion. Taking her to Amma's for the lunch buffet racked up some major cool points for me. She "died and went to heaven" upon seeing a certain item, and raved on and on about a puddlinglike dessert made with coconut. We both gleefully stuffed our faces, with plenty of hits from the water pitcher that was thoughtfully left at the table. My personal favorite was a dish featuring cauliflower prepared in a "house" chili sauce - had never before felt "zing" when trying to consume that nutrition-laden but tasteless vegetable. I took four servings of that one, lol. Anyway...Amma's is located in a commercial district that's on the skids within a neighborhood which can get sketchy after dark, but there's parking right up against the building and you'd have no problems at all if you went for dinner. They're at 7633 Reading Rd in Cincinnati's Roselawn community, which is also home to the much-loved Song Long Vietnamese/Chinese restaurant on nearby Section Rd.

Wilson1010,
No, you did not offend me at all. I'm just annoyed at your response. I've gotten excellent responses from others, so in response to your "how's it working for you?" comment: I'm doing very well and I'm not getting annoyed by others, who seem to be normal friendly people. I know there are knowledgeable people out there and this is why I post on here. Seeking that knowledge should not be a burden.

Goyguy,
Thanks so much for your most helpful information. We ate at Song Long and enjoyed it very much. We also rode around & were impressed with the Mt Adams and Hyde Park areas.

Enjoying my stay !
What are the good Thai, Filipino, Sushi & Vietnamese places in or around town (I have a car, so location is not a concern)? How about Pizza (deep dish or NY style)?
Thanks in advance

Well, you've been to Song Long which, as you experienced is quite nice Vietnamese. For Thai, I think you could find the Lemon Grass on Madison Road, or Bangkok Bistro on Erie in a dead heat. Someone else will have to take a shot at Filipino.

If you like Ribs and great BBQ, try Pit to Plate on Hamilton Ave
Call ahead and see if thet have entertainment the night you want to go. They have jazz, blues and other groups on a regular basis.
Not the sweet sticky BBQ offered at other places. Truly a gem
