Default Why must Cincinnatians drive so closely on the expressway?

I can't believe how idiotic people are on the highway here. They drive mere inches from each other while barreling down the road, don't let people merge on, and are constantly using their brakes. Everyone could get home a lot quicker if they would just leave a few car lengths in between each other. It's not rocket science.

Well, let's examine that theory. Suppose there is a line of cars a mile long. Each car is moving at 25 miles per hour in heavy traffic and they are one car length apart. I calculate that every hour 3300 cars will pass. Now, if each car is separated by three car lengths, then only 1650 cars will pass each hour. I think we can agree that the same number of cars have to get home each evening, so your suggestion would double commute time for everyone. And, since rear end collisions on the expressway are a very rare occurence (probably less than one per every million car miles), I think you are quite wrong in your thesis. People are idiots, however, but not for the reason you assert.

Actually I've noticed drivers havent become worse over the last couple years. Lack of turn signals and slow people in the left lane... but that seems like it has increased all over.

IL..hopefully that doesnt stand for Chicago where many bad drivers reside

Well, as someone who has driven in all 48 states in the ConUS, bad driving certainly isn't exclusive to OH...

I MISS those features! Here in the Philippines, you can get stuck behind a slow moving vehicle... even when the road is empty (not that the road is empty very often).

... because our cars are sold with city boundary indicators. When we cross into city limits are indicator starts beeping and then are cars go into auto-pilot kind of like cruise control, which forces our cars to drive themselves. Those damn city boundary lines.

Tailgating (not the fun one) is got to be the dumbest things ever. You arent going any faster - you are just driving much more dangerously because if traffic backs up, or even slows, or the driver in front of you slams on his breaks to avoid a deer, you are in an accident. In fact, in this case, the term accident really isnt correct because if you are driving that close you are asking for an accident. You wont be able to react in time. Drive a little farther back, still can go the same speed and you can actually see whats going on in front of you.

However, this isnt just a Ohio or Cincy thing. I see this everywhere. In fact, around here i seem to think the NKY invaders are just as bad if not worse.
