Cincinnati - Ohio's Most Advancing city???
I must say that I'm rather excited about the way the elections turned out. That being said; the developments in and around Cincy are really going to make a huge impact on this area. I honestly think Cincinnati is Ohio's most "up and coming" city. This is just my opinion, but hear me out. I've been a lifelong resident here, and I'm used to "things not getting done, the city not keeping up with the new trends, declining population, more crime etc..." But it seems like everything is moderatley turning around:
1.) Issue 9 failed (thank god) allowing us to move ahead with our plans for mass transit and High Speed Rail
2.) Issue 3 is a go. Broadway Commons was in DESPERATE need of re-developing. The naysayers of the Casino project say they would've liked to see this space filled with retail, boutiques, parkspace etc... but if this was the case, why hasn't this been done already???? The Casino will be a nice addtion to downtown.
3.) The city will soon begin construction on a new major shipping port in Queensgate. Queensgate Terminals project heats up
4.) The Banks project is well underway, and ahead of schedule
5.) Redeveopment in University Heights will add a new hotel and many new residences
6.) Rookwood Commons is finally able to expand now that the empty lot across the street is up for grabs (they finally demolished that last standing house) Plans call for a brand new hotel, apartments, condos, resturaunts, bars and a new movie theatre (awesome, since they closed the Showcase in Bond hill)
7.) Queen City Square Tower is 80% leased, and is rising steadily (this will make a fine addtion to the skyline)
8.) CPS is slowly, but steadily improving.
9.) I-75 will be completly restored and upgraded (although this project isn't slated to start for a few years)
10.) The inner-city actually gained population (placing us at around 380,000 residents if i'm correct. 400,000+ including Norwood, St. Bernard, Elmwood etc...)
With those points mentioned, there is still alot the city needs to do (such as making Over-The-Rhine a safe mixed income and atrractive neighborhood, same with Avondale, Westwood etc...) But it seems as if the city is finally moving forward aggresivley. I pray that we can keep this momentum.
discuss....

^ Bro, I feel ya! I was actually thinking about this today too ... the difference though between you and me is that I think it's one of the most advancing in the midwest, not just OH ... and yes, I'm pretty familiar with our brothers and sisters!
I was listening to 700wlw today and even Bill Cunningham sounded excited about the streetcars and energy! lol
What I think happened is this:
Our news tries to pound and pound negative perceptions into our head, but many of us just aren't listening, don't care, or know better. Things have definitely changed and people want to keep this momentum going and I believe this is what kept Mallory in office (well, that and a Republican won't win as Mayor here for a long time).
I drive around downtown and I count almost a dozen cranes, the midwest tallest skyscraper U/C outside of Chicago, so many new restaurants and bars opening up that I can't even keep up with anymore, crowds of folks from 21-55, the smell of food, lines of taxis fighting for customers, existing businesses being renovated, OTR renovating more buildings in the Gateway Quarter than Drees could off West Chester Rd., Uptown getting Uptown Commons going, Part 1 crime is dropping and has been for the past few years, we're sitting at 53 homicides (yes, 53!) and the year is almost over, exclusive retailers are moving into our region, IKEA locating here, the nations' top ranked hotel, 21c (a boutique hotel) signed to move into the Metropole Downtown, the Christian Morlein Lager-house announcing his plans to open up a Horbrauhaus on steroids, the Bearcats are ranked 4th, the Bengals are in 1st in AFC, the Reds will have a winning season next year .... Jesus, the momentum keeps piling and compounding and only seems to build even more - while us who bought real estate are going to reap the benefits hugely - financially! WHOO HOO!

I was thinking about the new Glass House condo development off Reading, right across the street from Broadway Commons ... can you imagine what is going through their heads right now?! lol

Can't wait to see how Broadway Commons turns out after this construction. And yes the Reds should do better next season. UC IS RANKED NUMBER 4, that just sounds amazing, and unprecedented. If the Bengals sweep our division again we definatley have a shot at the Superbowl, but i'm getting ahead of myself. Wish we still had Odom, he'll be alright next season though.

I have an idea for that. Since they already plan that to be the back and the river side the front of the casino, why not a Hollywood type 1890's downtown street scene on the back side with muted lighting and charming facades? Direct all the blinking chase lighting to the south and west (note that the hillside of Mt. Adams has a bit of a problem too). And, what they have been looking at so far hasn't been all that nice.

Yep, thats the rendering I saw. I think It'd look awesome with a Hotel tower attatched to it. It'd also be awesome if they added some unique landscaping around it (Fountains, Sculptures, green space)

Design details still have to be worked out, so any renderings you see now are just preliminary. They could end up being very similar, or could look very different.
IMHO, these casinos aren't and never were planned to be "destination" spots like you would find in Las Vegas or Atlantic City, but rather regional entertainment spots, thus there isn't the need for on-site hotel rooms.

The agreement between the city of Cincinnati and hotel leaders are that they build no on site or connecting hotels. A very smart move business-wise. This creates a non-monopoly type atmosphere ... and what'd ya know!... the nation's top ranked casino Hotel Louisville Kentucky :: Downtown Luxury Lodging is acquiring the Metropole in Downtown on Walnut St.
I'll post renderings in a little bit.
