Bush is a large government capitalist. Obama is a hard core socialist. I don't really want to get into a discussion of this if you have to ask this question. I'm not interested in defending either one of these statists.

Without your explanation, I think people knew what I meant, dude.

I am not asking you to defend either one of them. I'm trying to understand why so many people I've met in the Cincinnati area are in denial with their political beliefs - they bash Obama at every opportunity, express beliefs that appear to be staunchly conservative (e.g. opposition to public transit, freedom center, etc.), blindly put faith on anything blurted out by Fox News, and yet claim they are not conservative. Come to think of it, it's quite funny actually

I don't understand it either. As much as I love this area, the right leaning politics can be a drag at times. What's worse is the fact that people are so closed minded they never give anything else a chance. Then you have people calling Obama socialist for continuing policies of the last administration and republican controlled congress. I have friends and family members that are conservative. They can make valid points and can justify their position. Then there are republicans that follow Fox News and seem to be brain washed.

Erm... I know this is off topic for the thread (I think NKY is really nice), but every Cincinnati mayor since 1984 has been a Democrat. It's just not true that Cincinnati is not a "progressive city". Since the early 70s Democrat or Charter Party mayors have been the norm.

Hmmmm. Let's review this. Soemone questioned why there were negative comments about Obama from NKY. I explained. Without offering anything, you questioned my explanation. In an effort to be polite, I elaborated. You attacked me.

How about this. If you have something to say on the subject, like "Oh, no, Obama isn't a socialist, here are the top ten things he has done to advance capitalism . . " or "no way, here's a nice article in the Huffington Post that says so . . ."

I think that in a couple more posts, you will be saying "9-11 was an inside job" or "where are the WMD's?" I'll be happy to ignore your comments no matter how foolish they may get. Let's see if you can express your own philosophies and please don't help me with mine.

Democrat does not necessarily equal progressive (you're right about Northern Kentucky; I really miss my old lunchtime walks across the bridges and into Covington). Cincinnati's Democrats are mostly interested in preserving their turf and their vision of the status quo. Not exactly progressive.

Cincinnati voted overwhelmingly democrat (always does), voted for Obama, then Hamilton County voted for Obama. We've elected a majority city council that's majority Democrat ... and endorsed Obama ... along with a mayor that's democrat. To endorse someone, typically, this means their view align with yours.
