Default Was there a Gregory's Steakhouse Downtown?

After Reds games or the rare occaison my family would be doing something else downtown, we ate on a steakouse, I believe around 6th or 7th street.

They cooked the steaks on large open grills inside the restaurant. I don't remember much else except the place was small and the steaks were incredible.

I remember eating at a steakhouse like you're describing when I was in high school in the 1960s. Don't recall the name or exact location, but I think it might be the same one. I'm remembering a cafeteria style line where you picked up your steak grilled to order, plus a baked potato and salad. The food, while nothing fancy, smelled and tasted so great I'm almost getting dizzy thinking about it.

Kluszewski's steak house was on Walnut between 6th and 7th. Or was it between 5th and 6th. Many will remember the grill which could be seen from the sidewalk what with flaming steaks and chefs flipping them, etc.

Yes, it was cafeteria-style serving! I recall that now. It was definitely a treat when we went there.

This would have been late 70's to mid-to-late 80's for us.

Yea, you picked your steak and talked to the chef while he flamed it. Quite an experience.

That sounds like the same place because you could see the flames on the grill from the sidewalk through the window. I remember a red neon sign on the window as well? I wonder if it had changed names/ownership?

I kind of remember the inside having open brick decor.

Ditto - recall going there with friends in February, 1972. It was not far from the main branch of the library. The cafeteria setup was similar to Mr. Jim's Steakhouses, although I think Greg's might have been a little more upscale. They had a chopped sirloin sandwich they called the "Greg Burger".

I think it became a place called Seafood Feast. Is that Bootsy's now?

I thought that it was Tad's or Teds. Grilled and talked as said above. We used to go there in early 60s for fraternity dinners because it was so cheap.

Somewhere in the back of my mothballed brain, I think a rib steak was 1.50 on special.

I'm sure noone will be looking for the answer to the name of the really cheap steakhouse back in the 60's and 70's, but here it is...Gregory's! I'm 100% sure. I believe this was one of the first Gregory family restaurant endeavors.
My husband and I had our 1st date there and it was great. I have often wished I had the recipe for their garlic dressing. It was sort of a forerunner of ranch dressing.
