Several major US cities are thought to be synonymous with impoliteness, shortness of patience or excessive crime but after visiting the location first hand, your experience is almost always the exact opposite.

Which US city do you feel has the most unfounded negative connotation associated with it and why.

Have fun!

I really don't think NYC will be taking the win in this thread, there are a handful of cities that have worse rep. Like Baltimore alone in the BosWash corridor. Besides those are stereotypes for your city, it's not really a rep for how dangerous the city is and how it should be avoided at all costs.

Probably never considering many NYers are too proud of that image.

Probably Cleveland. Just like every time someone brings up a Cleveland discussion that satire tourism video is brought up like it's completely based in reality.

I would have also said Pittsburgh in the past, but it seems like its reputation is improving. As it should be.

I would think cities like Detroit, New Orleans, St. Louis, Newark, Camden, and Gary have the worst reputations...unfortunately they've earned them.

Cities like Chicago and Philadelphia have bad reputations in terms of crime, etc. and while they've earned them, I think it tends to overshadow the fact that they're two world-class cities.

Just added a poll...I forgot about Detroit though. It probably would have been a landslide had I included it so maybe it's for the best!

Baltimore. Trust me, it isn't that bad.

What makes you think that? Crime has been on a steady decline in most cities since the early 90s...or are you just hoping that crime goes up?
