Chicago claims its them, Texas & the South claims its their title. Which do you consider the "3rd Coast"?

I suppose this one could go either way depending on how you look at everything....they're such different places.

I know a few things about the Great Lakes. There are 37 million people in the immediate area surrounding the Great Lakes. There is 10,900 miles of coastline, including that of Michigan - which has more coastline than any of the lower 48 states.

I heard they had to haul in the sand to Chicago's beaches & put up seasonal palm trees. Is that true?

When I was in Chicago back in April I just didn't get that coastal vibe at all. It was way too cold & windy for Spring time.

Lake Michigan is a very large lake, but its by no means a substitute to a real salt water ocean.

When my GF wanted to order seafood there I had to remind her we weren't on a real coast so it might not be as fresh.

I'm not trying to knock Chicago & Midwesterners for what ever pride they may have as a result, but its true.

Obviously the Gulf Coast.

Much love to the great lakes, and I realize this may not be literally correct, but to me "coast" is an ocean (salt water).

I don't consider there to even be a 3rd coast.

We're not stupid either. You ARE trying to knock the area.

The most popular usage of the term "3rd Coast" is in reference to the Great Lakes region.
Google LatLong: Google Earth now includes US “Third Coast”
Third Coast - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

3rd Coast is just a slang term for Gulf Coast. Kinda how some people may refer to the West Coast as Westside.

Its a cliche word that has been popularized by Hip Hop culture & in the South.

In the South this might be true. For the rest of the Country the term 3rd coast has long been used in reference to the Great Lakes.

You just said it...LAKES. Coast is singular, as in one contiguous coast line stretching for 1,500 miles.

Thanks for proving my point!

I hate this kind of thinking. My friend who moved to Minnesota from Virginia would get mad if we mentioned "beach" "shore" or "coast".

Just like my friends from San Diego who laugh when I say "I live on the North shore of Minnesota"

View from my House. I guess the Great Lakes don't have a shoreline, coastline or beaches huh..
Go tell Michigan that. Some of the best beaches in the US and they don't taste like salt
