More than 10 million Americans moved from one county to another during 2008. The map below visualizes those moves. Click on any county to see comings and goings: black lines indicate net inward movement, red lines net outward movement.
I noticed that one issue is that the last few years have had upheavals in many areas so this might not be a good indicator of long-term trends. I am guessing 2011 or 2012 might give us an idicatior of the years ahead here.
As to income differences of people moving in or out. I am guessing it is based on what groups are responsible. Lower ones are either younger people in or just out of college and retirees while higher numbers are people in prime earning years (40's and 50's)
