Good topic!

My absolute favorite is the New York metro area. There is something for everyone. The suburbs in Bergen, Union, Hudson, Morris, and Essex are completely different in feel from the suburbs of Westchester, Rockland, and Putnam, which are completely different in feel from the suburbs in Fairfield, which are different from the suburbs in Nassau and Suffolk, which are different from the suburbs in Monmouth and Ocean.

My second favorite is Phoenix. The fact that the suburbs and city are integrated on the same grid network with the same style of architecture makes Phoenix easy to get around. Also, the overwhelming majority of the Valley (east, west, south, or north) is new, giving almost the entire metro a new, clean feeling.

My third favorite is Los Angeles. The variety of the beach communities, to the Inland Empire, to the exurbs of Apple Valley, Hesperia, Moreno Valley, and Temecula is quite interesting.
