The only one I have been to is Baton Rouge, so I am going with it.
I have never been to South Carolina before, but I am doing a New York City-Miami trip this summer to see everything in between those two. (with some friends for fun) I suppose I will get my chance to finally see it.
Anyone have any advice? Anything I should watch out for in South Carolina?
You will be in for quite a ride, the real queen city of the carolina's, diamond in the rough
Columbia SC. all the way baby!!!!!! Lived there later as a civillian, and first courtesy of Fort Jackson. Forrest Acres is fine Southern living...USC..ya the other USC..go Gamecocks. For those Southern haters that think they have the South pegged as backwards..South Carolina college radio scene in the early 90's was on par with the scene in Cali( Santa Barbara) (Boulder colo and (Columbia NYC). It doesn't hurt that Myrtle Beach and Charleston are so close either.Of course Athens GA. was a huge deal at the time as well.

I enjoyed Columbia as a USC student but I don't want to live there as a young professional. for that matter I wouldn't want to move to Baton Rouge either but I'll give this to Columbia since I've never been to Louisiana.

And that's what small college cities like Columbia, Baton Rouge, Knoxville, Lexington, etc. have to work on: retaining students after they graduate. They also suffer from being in relatively close proximity to larger cities that are more of a magnet for college grads (Charlotte, New Orleans, Nashville, Louisville, respectively). Hopefully they can learn/are learning from cities that have successfully made that transition, like Raleigh and Austin.
I have been to baton rouge plenty of times, but never been to columbia, and have thought about moving to baton rouge. So ima pick baton rouge, but I really wish I had a better opinion on columbia so I could really judge both.
