Relative to many other cities, why is AC nightlife underrated?

Probably city size and the similarities drawn to Las Vegas. It automatically goes into Vegas's shadow. Same case with Reno.

Yes but AC has nearly the number of visitors as Vegas and is much larger than Reno, plus its casinos on the high end gross more than Vegas, especially when it comes to gambling

Atlantic City needs to market itself better.

It needs to start breaking deals with movie producers and making itself into a popular destination. They are currently building their largest two buildings, an additions to their skyline.

They have great access to the ocean something Vegas doesn't have and never will, and they have historic boardwalk. I think Atlantic City should renovate itself and add more attractions.

It seems to come off as just a gambling nightlife scene, possibly diversify with some more shows and attractions. That can get them going. And like Las Vegas, they can always tap into more unique architecture.

Atlantic City, IMHO has more potential to be better than Las Vegas due to it's location, but it has not tapped that potential at all yet.

Well it will never be vegas, still more of a regional draw, agree on the marketing side, and on shows, it actually is pretty close to vegas

Most movies have been about the mob (unfortunately true) listen to the Bruce Springsteen song about the battle for AC between the NYC and Philly mob, NYC won btw, surprise or the blight.

Over the last ten years it has really re-invented itself but still gets little or no noise. It is a regional destination for NYC and Philly (hell Philly is 45 minutes) and to lessor extent Balt and DC but seems still as an after thought, it could be much more

the one thing i do like is i can decide at midnight to go, be there before 1 and party all night, it never closes

I literally just stopped and asked myself this question:

If I were to visit Atlantic City or Las Vegas, which would it be?

And this is what came into my response: Las Vegas.

It is known for it's nightlife, it's fine dining, it's amazing hotel, and it's infrastructure be it the Eiffel Tower or a little part of New York City.

It has world renowned attractions, like the White Tiger one, and many shows. They do unique things at the Bellagio.

But most of all, the city has been exposed to numerous upon numerous films and in pop culture.

It even has a slogan: "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas"

And then I realized after actually looking it up, Atlantic City is no slouch, it has upscale things as well.

But the reason it doesn't get the level of notoriety is because it doesn't try at all to market itself as big as Las Vegas does. It needs more exposure.

It also needs to start becoming more innovative, they have to step out of the blue and get an attraction that no where in the world can have.
They need to attract some more world class hotels that can get it's name out.

The city itself is quite nice, but they have to start advertising it. They have the opportunity to become a mini-Miami (with coastal setting) and a NE version of Las Vegas, but they have to start screaming attractions.

Think about it this way, do you want to go to a desert or to a dense environment with plenty of places nearby?

The desert only wins out because of how it marketed itself throughout it's growth.

I really like their theme, "where can you see New York City, Egypt, Paris... etc all in one place?" In Las Vegas. That really sticks out to me. The fame of the Water Show at the Bellagio.

Atlantic City needs to get more publicity on it's attractions, I looked it up, they have some great attractions and I find it bizarre I have never heard of them before until now.

Well the city is really not nice at all, but it actually has upscale hotels on the level with LV, but nothing like the slogan, that is a great slogan for LV

AC is a ghetto with casinos and some posh places

I was just talking to my friend right now actually. He says they have crime there, and by quite a bit.

But I honestly do believe that is something the city can take care of itself on, and improve upon.

I know Monopoly the Board game was drawn from Atlantic City. They have one of the best boardwalks in the country, 5 Million + visitors, so it's something that they can take advantage of.

I have not been, but the place seems quite appealing to me, despite the ghetto areas.
