Be it in mountains, plains, beach, or otherwise what small city is the nicest you've been to?
Some criteria to get us started but feel free to add your own explanation as well.
I'm not getting to specific in them because I don't want to encourage any one particular setting. You could name a small town in Nebraska, a small city in Wyoming, a village in Hawaii, or just about anywhere else. Let's keep it civil and to the point. I'm looking at this list because after I might try to find work and move to one of these places in the near future.
Name of City:
1. Bars
2. Danceclubs
3. Cuisine
4. Indoor Activities (Movies, Bowling, Gyms, Comedy Clubs, etc....)
5. Outdoor Activities (depends on what type of setting you've chosen)
6. Cost of Living
7. Clean streets
8. Appropriate amount of people for a city its size
9. Availability of good quality produce, meats, fish at decent cost
10. How easy or difficult is it to get to
11. How easy or difficult is it to get around (are things very spread out, are there buses, is it shady if you walk or bike, are taxis available, etc....)
12. Would you recommend for living or just for vacation
Oh, I don't have kids so don't really care but feel free to comment on the city you picks education quality as well if you like.
^ How small are we talking Enders?? You know some people would say that Orlando is a small city, while others would consider "small" to mean more like Sarasota or something. If we are including metros of 2 million + then I'm sure Orlando might get your vote and mine.
I'm talking small like Naples, Key West, St. Augustine, Malibu, Oceanside. Or maybe something in rural Texas if you think it fits the bill like Midland or Corpus Christi.
I'm just giving a few I know of because I don't really know nice small mountain towns or desert towns or anything like that but again those are also fair game.
I guess to put a number on it we'd be talking around the sub 500,000 mark but these aren't strict rules.
Orlando is definitely out and Sarasota would be pushing it thats for sure especially because of how close Sarasota is to Tampa. Remember not just size and things there but a little isolation as well.

Gotcha, I'd have to go with Asheville, NC & Sedona, AZ because of their different, yet equally stunning, natural settings, unique attractions, funky vibes, American Indian histories, and great restaurants like the Early Girl Eatery in Asheville and just about any true Mexican restaurant in Sedona. They are both failrly isolated from other equally sized or larger metro areas.

Keep em coming and do try to tell us a bit about the place given the criteria.
There is also Flagstaff, Arizona. It is worth a visit during the winter time, take your snowboard or ski's with you- San Francisco Peaks are there. It is a great experience, and a very charming small town, I have been for two winters and it's a great city.
The towns around Lake Tahoe are great as well.
I also want to recommend these- I am sure many haven't heard of a lot of these but here goes.
- Try Aspen, Colorado. Very beautiful and plenty to do during the winter. One of my favorite suggestions, you should look up pictures for it.
- Try Juneau, Alaska- the capital of Alaska and it very beautiful. There are only limited places in the country that can match Alaska in that regard.
- Manitoulin Island- this island is located in the Great Lakes.
- Mackinac Island- Also another island located inside the Great lakes. There are towns on this island that are quite lovely. I will show you pictures near the end of this post.
- Also try Santa Fe, New Mexico. It is a very rich cultural experience, and it's quite beautiful. You have a very artistic vibe there and traditional at the same time.
- Check out Bellingham, Washington. It is a small town but it very lovely, lush green, small town friendly people, mountains and waterfalls and forests to see in the area.
Mackinac Island looks great, what kind of COL is it and is there any nightlife there?
I lived in Flagstaff when I was little, very very little, like I don't remember it but have seen photos.

I haven't been yet so can't answer the questions, going down on Monday for a job interview (which made me realize how nice it would be to live in a place like this).

Oh for those that don't know Naples proximity to a major metro is about 115 miles. Its very isolated.
