I was a homer and voted Jersey Shore...but I love SoCal.
Aside from being a homer, though, the tipping point is that the Jersey Shore's water is warmer - when it is warm, that is. It's nice that in SoCal you have year round "beach weather", but when the water is still freezing cold in July and August in the dead of summer, that takes away from it.
Also, when it comes to boardwalks and variety amongst shore towns Jersey Shore does seem to have everything from one extreme to another and every shade of variance in between. From Island Beach State Park, which is perfectly natural and quiet and clean, to Atlantic City with its huge boardwalk, major casino/hotel resorts, and amusements/concessions there is every type of variation in between, and I don't see that in SoCal, but SoCal is absolutely beautiful.
But wait not so fast mr.......... Jersey has access to long island and new york beaches as well
