lol... that's a loaded question if I've ever seen one. Still, I'll answer it.

The impoverished neighborhoods in Oakland tend to:

- have some of the most diverse neighborhoods in one of the most diverse cities in the country
- be home to some of the best Victorians in the Bay
-put you within easy BART distance of Downtown San Francisco, Downtown Oakland and Downtown Berkeley or bus distance to a BART station no matter where you are
- have great chinese food
- have great mexican food
- be significantly cheaper than their counterparts in SF
- be home to arguably the most thriving hip hop scene on the west coast

Some of the benefits of the whole city include:

-The mixing of social classes and races even in the ritzy areas
-Beautiful natural scenery
-Some of the best views of the bay in the hills
-Beautiful port (and one of the most important on the west coast)
- Lake Merritt (great for jogging)
- Being centrally located in the bay area
- Great food in general

And a whole lot of others that I don't feel like going through at this point.

The whole point of this thread is to avoid criticism, and to talk of the good that does actually happen. Read the topic title and original post again. How is this so hard to understand?

I never said Philly doesnt belong on the list. Also I never said it was better than the others. I didn't even compare Philly to any of the other cities

I really don't know where your getting that from. All I said was that this is a positive thread, and that you shouldnt be posting negative things on a positive thread. I never said anything like NYC>LA>Philly> everything else

No I wouldnt. No city in the county can compare to NYC. I have no problem admitting cities like Chicago and New York are above philly.

Idk why you think I said any of this. All I said to you was to stop ruining the positive thread with negative posts

Anyway, back on topic, here's some New Orleans pics of mardi gras

I promise this is going to be positive (overall), but I do agree with Blackbeauty. *shields face*

First off, I'll start by saying that Philadelphia is one of America's great cities. I have friends and former co-workers there so I've spent weeks at a time in Philly and feel very comfortable giving my opinion (no matter who doesn't agree or vice-versa).

Philadelphia is consistently painted (much more often than not) on CD as a place that I've just never considered it to be. No matter what the discussion/topic entails, you can bet Philadelphia is going to be mentioned as the standard by which other cities should be measured. Sometimes the topics are just too ridiculous to even chime in, but it's an undenyable pattern here on CD. As a result, I always end up pointing out the obvious which in turn looks like bashing, but it's really more of a defense mechanism than anything else.

Philly is always presented as the benchmark of what a "real" city is supposed to be on CD when I just don't see it that way at all. I see Philly as more of a place of interest and fascination, sort of like New Orleans from a historical standpoint.

It just gets so damn annoying, but I won't allow these pinheads to alter my perception or vision no matter what they type. I still enjoy Philadelphia wholeheartedly, but I (like you) would like to see more of an acknowledgement of it's shortcomings because it's just not in line with what's depicted here to me either.

*gets off soapbox*

Wow Aficionado, pot calling the kettle black or the kettle calling the pot blacker? Full stop.

Anyway, N.O. has taken on two disasters in 5 years and isn't letting these issues slow it down so I guess that counts for something positive.

while blackbeauty maybe should have just left it alone I see what he/she was trying to say. He/she did not derail the topic the philly posters getting upset that I even mentioned philly in the thread derailed the topic. Please people stick to what the thread is suppose to be about. People from Philly, I didn't mean any harm in including you. If you took it that way, I apologize but don't come in to say "Philly is not like Detroit or Baltimore" because you're just being like the rest of the idiots. Bringing down one city just to boast your own.

Ninties Flava thanks for all the positive pics of Oakland. I see you in many other threads uplifting Oakland and doing it without downing another city. I appreciate it.

Remisc and IloveDetroit thank you so much for your insight on Detroit. Remisc I hope you enjoy your new home in the Marina District. I've been hearing so many good things about the Marina District lately

Omgsh thanks for the pics of New Orleans. I can't wait to visit

See, this is why there will never be peace.lol

I specifically said that I've in turn lashed out myself in retaliation, but for the record I've never had anything against Philly; no matter what anyone may think (especially you). Things can quicky change when I'm under fire, make no mistake. That's when the gloves typically come off.

She told the absolute truth. That's a damn shame, you would choose some mess to address me about...SMH!
