L.A. is the NYC of the West Coast.

No, I don't feel there is a city in the U.S. that would be comparable to NYC. Just my opinion.

what I mean by L.A is the West Coast's NYC is that NYC is the most important city in the norteast/east coast and the most populous. Los Angeles is the most important as far as media and music on the west coast.

grap is talking about actual feel. philly, boston, b'more, dc etc.. are a lot closer to feeling like nyc - proximity has something to do with it

in an abstract way, LA is like NYC (er Manhattan 1/5th of the city)

i've heard a lot of people call San Diego a mini-LA. and it is....i've been there. La Jolla is a wanna be LA

LA would be like Santa Barbara if were comparing New York city to Hog Kong.
