I definitely prefer Charleston. It's a unique and interesting place. Fantastic food.

Charleston is a CITY, and arguably a more urban one at that, although smaller.

No one has yet to answer my question, What does Charleston have that Tampa doesn't? I can name plenty of things Tampa has that Charleston does not.

Charleston is a nice unique town with Character. But Tampa the same things you can find in Charleston and way more. Tampa has unique history just like Charleston, with Ybor city, west Tampa and Bayshore, great cuisine that is unique to the area, which blends Spanish dishes and great seafood, plus all the big city amenities.

As far as "Authenticity", last time I checked, Tampa was just as authentic a city as Charleston, and more Urban as well.

I already answered that in this post. Looks like Charleston has more art galleries than Tampa, too.

I'm well aware that Tampa has history, but Tampa's role in Southern and U.S. history doesn't even begin to compare to Charleston's, and Charleston still has those historic sites intact. I'm also well-aware that Tampa has its own cuisine, but Charleston's is nationally renowned. Charleston is typically ranked higher than Tampa as a tourist and cultural destination. I've already acknowledged that there are certainly things that Tampa has that Charleston doesn't, but some people seem to (mistakenly) think that that can't be the case the other way around simply because Tampa is a significantly larger city.

You still have yet to answer the question. Unique history, cuisine, and arts are all something that Tampa has. Tampa's art scene has expanded rapidly over the last couple of years, with new art galleries and the new Tampa Museum of Art. Tampa's cuisine is also extremely underrated. Charleston may be typically ranked higher than Tampa as a tourist destination, but Tampa doesn't market itself as a such like Charleston does, even though it has plenty of attractions and amenities like Busch Gardens, Adventure Island water Park, Lowery Park Zoo, The Florida Aquarium, Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, the Florida State Fairgrounds, Pro sports teams, a major cruise ship terminal, 6 museums, a world class international airport and convention center, beautiful and extensive waterfront, and close proximity to other metros like Orlando, St Pete, and Clearwater.

LOL, I answered it; obviously it just wasn't to your satisfaction. Charleston has an internationally acclaimed performing arts festival (Spoleto USA); Tampa does not. Charleston has a unique culture with its own dialect and culture (Gullah); as far as I know, Tampa does not. Charleston has nationally renowned cuisine; Tampa does not. Charleston has historic plantations and gardens; Tampa does not. Charleston has several historic buildings and sites that are much more important to regional and national history than Tampa. Charleston has more art galleries. Did I spell it out for you clearly enough? Look, I'm not arguing that Charleston is necessarily a better city, but you aren't giving Charleston its just due here.

Bumblesquat, Arkansas has unique history, cuisine, and arts. But are they nationally/internationally renowned or important on a national level? That's the line of separation here.

Of course it wasn't to my satisfaction because it didn't answer the question. So Charleston has a internationally acclaimed festival. If its so acclaimed why haven't I heard of it. Tampa has parades and festivals too. Charleston has unique culture with its own dialect, I didn't know that, so that is something Tampa doesn't have. Charleston has nationally renown cuisine, so does Tampa, with nationally acclaimed restaurants such as The Columbia, and Bern's Steak House, and have you ever eaten a Cuban sandwich? It was invented in Tampa. Charleston has Plantations and Gardens. Tampa has Gardens but no plantations in the immediate city limits. It doesn't matter if Charleston has historical sites and buildings more important than Tampa's. That wasn't the question I asked. Charleston has art Galleries, so does Tampa. The point I am making is that even though Charleston has Tampa beat in some areas, Tampa just has more to offer, and you can almost find everything in Tampa that you can in Charleston but more.

Bottom line is, If you want a city that has charm and character, go with Charleston. If you want a city with all the amenities, go with Tampa.

The one thing I wish Tampa had is a good public transportation system with decent options. I heard something about a future light rail system?
