Pittsburgh's top hinterland cities are

Philadelphia
DC
NYC

and Pittsburgh falls in the top 3 of each of these same cities....which is why I always have to laugh when people say Pittsburgh is most Midwest or OH cities Pittsburgh closest OH hinterland big city is Cleveland and that comes in at number 10...

Here are a couple:

Baltimore - Richmond, VA
Philly - Baltimore
New Orleans - Charleston, SC
Seattle - Portland
DFW - Minn/St. Paul (throwing this in there for kicks)

Richmond doesn't have a harbor, but there are other similarities that I've seen, and others have mentioned on this site, such as gritty environment, architecture, labeled with crime, tons of history, proximity to DC, etc.

There are definitely similarities between Baltimore and Richmond, but based on experiences, not enough to call them sisters. They had different histories and definitely different vibes. Too different vibes to call them sisters imo.

I'd say Toledo and Detroit may be a little more similar.

Cleveland is a smaller Chicago imo

both have a lot of cultural arts, good food, Puerto Ricans, eastern europeans, etc

What does Houston, Texas have in common with Mobile, Alabama? Do elaborate.
I tried to relate cities to sister cities outside of their own state. "Little sister cities" meaning an obvious population difference. (according to the OP)

I didn't intend to make it seem Houston and Mobile seem so identical, but they have a few things in common.
-Both are port cities along the Gulf
-Their infrastructure aren't polar opposites- They're more so similar actually (If you could get offer the fact that Houston is a lot bigger)

I don't know how much more in depth you can get in any comparison where one city is far larger than the other.

Mobile is more country and less bustling than Houston- But any "little sister city" would lack the impact the "bigger sister" do.

You can disagree.
