That point at 800 Market St., is roughly 8 long blocks or roughly 1 mile from the bay. You're missing out on a lot.
To get a better guage of a 2 mile radius in downtown SF that is completely on land, I would use City Hall, located at 400 Van Ness Ave.

Hmmm, I would think that once you got out passed 50 miles for Houston that Dallas would have much more people. Where are those extra 2 million people coming from?

You may be right but there is definatley some incremental. I am estimating with 2000 to 2009 so could be like +/-5% on volume but that would still be less than 400K on those totals
but another way to think about it for perspective, would you assume that 50% of Texas population is within a hundred miles of either, if so the numbers actually make some sense.
