There is one very interesting thing that came out of Minnesota: Peanuts by Chuck Schultz(RIP). Famous TV show based in MPLS: Mary Tyler Moore Show.
And I will be honest. I loved the fact that metro Atlanta got more snow this year. Not nearly as much as one might get in Mpls, but I was certainly. Part of the reason I like the snow and cold temperatures is because it brings out a younger spirit in me.
One big thing I like in Atlanta is Centennial Park.

I can't debate the findings of any U.S. new ranking, but I don't always agree with them 100%. Sometimes schools which I know are better than others are misrepresented, especially the high school rankings. Also, standardized tests are different all throughout the country, possibly resulting in different results.
My personal opinion is that the U of M Twin-Cities is on par, if not better than UGA. Research and engineering is a strong suit of the 'U', and they are making a push to be one of the top three public research institutions in the world within 10 years.
I was thinking of attending GT, but the out-of-state tuition was just too much.

Akhenaton06 already alluded to this:
In the liberal arts colleges rankings, Carleton ranks 8th, Macalester 26th, St. Olaf 51st, St. John's 62nd, Gustavus Adolphus 79th, and St. Benedict 81st. In Georgia, Spelman ranks 59th and Agnes Scott 67th.

I never knew Charles Schultz was from MN - I always thought he was from Santa Rosa?
But yeah, we did have a LOT more snow than usual this past winter. We sometimes go for a year or two without any, but IIRC we had at least five events this year. Some of them were very fluffy and beautiful, vs the heavy, wet stuff we usually get. The best result was the lushest, most beautiful spring I've ever seen here.
The whole East Coast had a very harsh winter, followed by a very harsh summer. With the exception of a pretty hot summer, I don't know if the upper Midwest has been experiencing the same?

Thanks, I never bothered to read every single post in here.
Statistics can be made to represent anything you like. Too easy to manipulate, IMO. It's obvious that there are some very good schools in GA and in MN, and the way they are calculated differs greatly. You can't go wrong with the top tier public/private universities in either state.

He indeed was from Minnesota. Born in Mpls and grew up in St. Paul. He lived in Needles,CA from 1928-1930. He would later live in Sebastopol,CA from 1958-1969, and then in Santa Rosa,CA from 1969 until his death.
Having snow was nice, but spring brings alot of misery for me. Allergies are a big problem for me. My father is a born and raised Wisconsinite, and I believe the climate there is similar to Minnesota, though I think it is colder in Minnesota. From what I am told, very cold winters keeps the pollen down because everything is frozen dead. Personally, cold winters are something beautiful, and for my allergies, a very good thing.
This past year was an El Nino year. It might explain why metro Atlanta got flooded last year, in the fall of all times. It might also explain a colder than normal winter. When April hit, it became very hot.
I picked Minnesota because I like winter, something about lutfisk intrigues me(although I never tried it before. I am still waiting for that try), land of 10,000+ lakes. There are alot of things I like about the state. There are more reasons that I will reveal later.
There are some good things and people to come from Georgia, such as Dr. King, SOS Band, and Gladys Knight and the Pipps.
