They have not surpassed Philly in cultural or economic significance.

I know; I ranked them how I wanted to, but just threw out that list to back up my list.

With the exception of Jersey City (most likely due to it's location); I think these are best fit for our top 9 important cities with Atlanta coming in at number 10.
1. New York City
2. Chicago
3. Los Angeles
4. Washington DC
5. San Francisco
6. Boston
7. Houston
8. Dallas
9. Philadelphia
10. Atlanta
The top 7 have been the list much longer than Dallas and Philly though; they were both just added as of 2010. I'd think the country would lend the most funding to our more important metropolitan areas.
|
I would honestly be shocked if Chicago received more DHS funding than L.A.

You want to know what? You people win, okay? Happy, Philadelphia should be the most important city in the country. The US Census realizes that, they're out to weaken Philadelphia. We all now know they are out to get Philadelphia. Oh yes Philadelphia should be crowned the historical and cultural capital of America, lets all just forget about the economic out put of every city, lets just all move to Philadelphia because they have 24/7 train service and a place called Center City that is the 2nd best place outside of Manhattan, maybe even tops Manhattan.
You convinced me, I'll be making the move after Grad school.
I can tell this thread means more for people of certain cities, have at it, this is your thread. It was started by one of you, and I guess this is your time to shine.
So after seeing the light, I will now rank the most important cities in the country:
1. Philadelphia
2. New York City
3. Who cares about the rest?
|
No its this

^^^That made me laugh. No way in hell is Philly on the level of DC, LA, or Chicago.
Every time you guys try and make your case its all historical. This isnt 1776, its 2010. In 2010, Philly is not on the level of LA, DC, or Chicago. Period.

Why not? Its bigger than DC, and has a better downtown than LA or Chicago.

I'm just kidding around mostly, but yeah. We can't ever have any normal discussions here without someone taking a hit.

Actually, according to the L.A. Times Dallas, Philly, and Boston were all added at the same time.

And a better downtown makes a city more important? No. Even so, it does not have a better downtown than Chicago.
LA, Chicago, and DC both have much larger economies than Philly. DC is the capital of the nation that is the capital of the free world. There is no measurement that would support Philly being on that level. Better downtown is subjective and is not indicative of being more important.
You just cant put Philly on that level.
