The cultural heart of America, why do you think its the most presdential visted region during campaign season? To get a feel for the pulse of the country.
In my opinion it should be considered a beta world city. I know it is rife with crime and political corruption, but so is Rio. The dark ages of the 80's and 90's are long gone.
It is the most visited because Pennsylvania is one of the largest swing states.
I believe Boston is on par with SF and DC and with Cambridge and Somerville it could be argued that Boston is larger and more interesting than the other two, especially DC.
If you include Cambridge then you have to include Oakland and Arlington,VA and it that argument is not so strong anymore.
How many city importance ranking, or city tier threads are we going to have? I feel like this subject has been debated and debated over and over on this site.
